The movies have some bad effect too - I agree. When they can cut many important parts from the book while making the movie, why should they include kissing scenes when they know 6 year olds are also watching it!!!?

Those kissing scenes were really very innocent! And weren't the films rated for 11 year old and older? I wouldn't have taken a 6 year old to see them, at least not in the cinema, but not because of the kissing scenes. Some of the scarier scenes could be too scary on a big screen when you can't explain etc. Leaving kissing out of a film about teenagers would seem quite unrealistic. Not that the rest of the films are very realistic, but part of the trick IMO is that main characters are normal kids despite the magic. So snogging would be a vital part at life at a boarding school :-)

One of the greatest things about the Harry Potter series is they were the first series of books that actually grow with the kids. Unlike the Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys series, etc. the character really never aged. With Harry Potter, in each book he's a year older. Like the kids who originally started reading the series when they first came out, they were about 10-11, and had aged a year when the next book was released. The kissing scene actually happens when Harry is 15, which is much older than when the books began. There were scenes in each movie I wish were more like the books, but I do understand cramming all that information into one 2-3 hour movie is a daunting task... Just think... the original book came out September 1, 1998... When the last movie comes out in 2011, the 11 year olds that started reading his story that same year will be 24!

Hmm, they make children read. At least the book do, and in some way also the movies, as I suppose many will read the books after having seen the films. Definitly good effect. They make children stand in line for hours wearing silly costumes. Maybe not a good effect but too bad either. That way they can practice til they get older and have to start queuing for all kinds of things.
