Chicago - Gov. Pat Quinn won't send Illinois National Guard troops to quell Chicago street violence unless Mayor Richard Daley wants them. Daley isn't backing a call by two Illinois lawmakers to bring in the National Guard but he said Monday he'd listen. Democratic state Reps. John Fritchey and LaShawn Ford want Quinn to order troops to Chicago because of recent violence, including one night when seven people were killed. Daley and Chicago Police Superintendent Jody Weis (wees) say a key to ending violence is getting guns off the street. Weis says he doubts the National Guard is the answer. As of midnight Sunday, the city had 113 homicides this year. There were 109 homicides from January to April last year and 134 during the same period in 2008. This is where I read it at: http://www.myfoxchicago.com/dpp/news/metro/20100426-quinn-national-guard I ask mylot peeps what are your thoughts on this matter. Should the National Guard be sent to deal with this situation. I am unsure whether that would be a good idea or bad idea and whether removing guns off the street is a good answer too because wouldn't that mean all gun owners have to give in there gun that own one legally? I know in Chicago you can't own a gun legally because they only allow you to have a gun license in the suburbs of Chicago but I am not sure whether I heard somewhere that they might make it legal for people to own a gun license in Chicago as well since its only allowed in the suburbs. But what are your opinions on this matter. I am indifferent on it. Thanks.

He needs something more than the police. I would say in that situation yeah national guard. I think he's playing down the use of the national guard, because he doesn't want outside help. Only 2 reasons I can think of as to why. 1. He's the problem. A corrupt politician that is behind all the murder in his city, or 2. he's embarrassed that he's been an ineffective servant of the people, and doesn't want someone showing him up, and making him look bad, so his own selfishness will ruin him. That many homicides in a year is ridiculous.

I agree I mean I wish someone else would be Mayor than him not to mention his dad former mayor was working with the Mobsters back in the day. I think he uses his connections as well to scare those that try to run for Mayor. Hence why I have yet to see any competition for him lately. I didn't realize you could be a Mayor that long.
