Something that goes a long way and that would be spaghetti with garlic bread and a salad. Pasta can serve many and its filling. Thanksfully this doesn't happen that offen. I like to plan ahead so everything is just right. Unexpected guest will usually put me into a frenzy that I dont' like to find myself in.

Any kind of pasta dish would be a good idea when serving guests for dinner. you can make pasta feed several and it is an economic meal to prepare. Thanks for responding.

I would prepare some carrots, chips and dips for appetizer while I'm still worried what to fix for dinner. lol No but seriously appetizers are a good way to give you time to prepare for dinner. What can you cook fast if they're already on their way? Is the supermarket just 5 min away from your home? I guess it depends upon the time. I would make a quick trip to the supermarket and make some simple salad, and then get some chicken wings to marinate fast with spicy sauce. It only takes me 25 min to have them cooked in the oven. If you don't have time to get something from the market then just order in - pizza or chinese. There's nothing wrong with that...less pressure!

I will prepare some easy-to-cook recipe to make sure that food is ready when they are home. I will cook rice, deep-fried chicken, four seasons vegetables, lettuce with thousand island dressing, and fruits like watermelon or mangoes.

I will choose the food which is easy to prepare in that way everything will be ready when they are home. I am thinking of preparing deep-fried chicken, four seasons (vegetables), lettuce with thousand island dressing, and watermelon or mangoes.

Honestly, if we had last minute guests arriving, we would take out from any one of our local restaurants (we're just a walk away) or just go out. Setting up the table is a snap for me - I can make a table look pretty spiffy on a moments notice . . . but I don't necessarily have a lot of food in the place to be able to whip up a whole dinner for several people. If I happen to have made something already - they'd be eating that . . . particularly if it's a pasta thing like my hearty spaghetti because I can feed an army with the amount that I make. And we usually have enough ingredients to make a side salad. But I like to plan a real nice meal when guests come - that is, if I know they're coming. But if it's a surprise visit, well too bad . . . they'll have to settle for take out food!

I don't keep so much stuff in my fridge, what I have is only for the day's menu. If that's happen, I rather order something from the restaurant and have it delivered in our home. This will save me time in planning what to serve and preparing and cooking as well.

I always keep an item called thuvaiyal, which is a paste like thing prepared with some vegetable, adding red chillies, tamarind, salt, black gram etc. It can be mixed in rice and can be a side dish to rotis and dosas too. Hence I will give regular food to the guest and also this tuvail if they like and I will use this dish for my dinner. Apart from this idly dosa batter (flour) will be there. I can always make dosa or idly either for them or me.

When that happens, we usually just order Roasted Chicken which could be bought in a store near where we live. It's quite difficult to fix up something last minute because most of the meat or fish are frozen and it would take a while before I could come up with something and usually when you're rushing, things wouldn't go right.
So I guess it would be good to just take out or order instead of rushing things which could also mess up the mood of the person cooking.
However, if the guest where known earlier, like a day or two, then perhaps a good meal could be prepared based on his/her preference and what he/she could eat (there are a lot of variety of religions in our area where some don't eat pork, while others don't eat a kind of fish, etc.).

Hey sender! I am not quite sure! It would depend on how much
time that I had! I would probably throw together some spaghetti
and meat sauce! I always have lots of chopped meat in the freezer
and that is the easiest to cook frozen! I also always have some
frozen biscuits in the refrigerator and usually some salad
fixings or frozen veggies! I would do the best that I could with
whatever was available! And it would serve the guest right for
coming unannounced!lol
