Do you believe good art comes from emotion?

I think that most art work is only good when it has emotion to it. Without emotion, its just some random thing, I believe you have to show your feelings in your artwork in order for it to be good. What are your opinions? :)

I actually thought it was impossible to not show your emotions through art. I always felt that art is an expression of creative emotion. But I guess you're right in that if the artist is holding back on their emotions their creativity will be limited and thus the art will not be as expressive. At the same time art is like many other things. Different kinds of art appeals to different individuals. I might think a particular art is very beautiful and appeals to me while someone else might consider it stiff and boring. It could be the emotion we are talking about is what the person looking at the art projects or feels. Perhaps I've posed more questions than answers. I think your statement is very good and it has made me think about art in a way I hadn't before.

It actually is possible. I like to draw, a lot.. and the other day I was feeling quiet. So I drew a girl with tape over her mouth, and made it in black and white to kind of get the depressed feeling.

Not only art but also many other life's activities are motivated by emotions.Emotion in an art can be seen and felt by the intensity shown in it.Similarly emotion drives one to achieve many things in life. For example if some body wants to earn tons of money and made it, then we can say he had a strong emotion behind driving him to achieve it.Though in this case the emotional intensity is not seen out side clearly. But we can see a dream, an emotional dream driving him make lots of money. The emotional dream is crucial here.Nothing motivates one more than an emotion let it be in art or any other life's endeavor.

I would assume so. You can write about anything dispassionately, but from my own experience all of my best work comes from deep emotions- anger, love, grief, and so on.
