Well Friend odesk is simply great site . I have some Indian friends who are working on odesk as Freelance software professionals and are earning $1000+ per month from their work contracts at odesk alone. For people who are non-technical[ non-IT ]the work is somewhat less available but still one can do projects which are related to ones working abilities. There are lots of projects to choose from. I am writing down here some very important points which are necessary at odesk. Step 1. Read the Rules of the site first very keenly . This is a make sure feature because all rules are to be incorporated while going through various stages of the profile making to the applying of jobs. Do give hours to read but read carefully. You can even copy/paste all the information to read it offline sometime. Step 2. Only reading rules will make you capable enough to complete the odesk readiness test . When you have read the rules completely and are ready to answer questions regarding the odesk work culture then give the test and if you pass the test then you will be ready to bid on projects. Only candidates who pass the odesk readiness test are allowed to bid. If it is not in one go then you can attempt again after the gap mentioned at the site . I don;t remember now exactly what is the gap but it is something in hours or complete 24 hours . Actually I cleared it in the first time itself so do not remember exactly. Step 3. Now complete your profile with some really nice but True information . Honesty will always be appreciated. Do make sure to include your unique qualities in the profile. Step 4. Try to take some tests at odesk which are provided to enhance the profile . It can be anything which is related to you like , US English Grammar , UK English Grammar ,Pronunciation, and various others listed at the site . If you get good percentage at these tests then it adds up to your profile and employers are really interested in it. Step 4. Find Projects which are related to your area of interest and bid n them. Remember one thing that firstly to improve your profile work feedback try to find buyers who are asking for small jobs and are ready to pay for a fixed job. If you are able to complete 3-4 small jobs and get good feedback then it will have a great boost to your profile. After this you can bid on Hourly projects. Hourly projects need the software of the odesk to be downloaded and installed which is run while completing projects , the work of this software is that it takes screenshots of the computer when you are working on the project and sends to the team room , where your work diary is maintained. This ensures for the employer to check that work is being done properly on hourly basis .Without this software only fixed projects are allowed. Try to find only those employers which have higher feedback and have lot of work already been posted at odesk . This ensures that the employers with whom you are dealing are really serious about getting work done on time and so also pay timely. I have done 4 projects on odesk related to Article rewriting and been paid on hourly basis . I kept my rate competitive at the earlier stages and then afterwards I increased my hourly rate . So keep a realistic rate so that buyers get attracted to your profile and pay rates. I hope this information will help you to a certain level so that you will be able to start your stint at odesk soon . All the best .

Hi, As champrocker said, odesk is a nice place to earn money. I working on graphic design projects. I tried many other free lance sites but I feel odesk is the easiest one to understand and work on. I am working on a hourly basis now and i have done fixed jobs too. The main thing you need to focus is to get your first job. To get the job you need to bid in the right way, I mean your cover letter. Go to odesk blog and there is an article written by a buyer on how to apply for a job..10 tips to follow. It is a very nice article where in he describes what buyers looks when people apply for a job

Hi myl999, I hope you got the answer and champrocker is absolutely right. This is what I wanted to say. I have also joined Odesk recently and hope find a good job. The more you take test, the more is the chances of getting job. I think first one have to complete the profile with great information about you and your work experiences. Then take test to prove yourself and the clients. I am doing that whenever I get time. I take more test to improve first and let the buyers know me with my progress report which anyone can see. Thanks.

We do have the same problem, I do have a discussion similar to yours. I'm also having a problem understanding the process going through with odesk. Until now I'm not yet done completing my profile and made me lazy to do it. Well, base on some reviews, Odesk is a legit site, however, getting a job their is too hard since you need to market yourself. You just need to wait for the company's to hire you and do the job.

You need to take the time to complete your profile and do a couple of the tests. I often hire workers from odesk and have found it the best site for proper workers. Other places like scriptlance can be a waste of time.

Before you get a job in Odesk, you need to pass certain tests which is required by the person or company who will be giving you a task and will pay you in return. But here's the cathch, not all those tests are easy. Some of those tests really have to be carefully read before you give an answer. There are 40 sets of questions in a limited time of 40 minutes. You need to get the answers in the time given and get at least 20 correct answers for you to pass.
