hello fellow mylotters! i was able to watch on tv several days ago about crocodile meat fast becoming a favorite among exotic food lovers here. imagine munching a burger with patties made from ground crocodile meat? but those who have tasted it swears it tastes really good. no wonder breeding farms in the philippines are laughing their way to the bank because an order of this exotic dish fetches from 500-1000 pesos each in some restaurants that serve it. given the chance, would you taste it even if it's free?

Hi, bananarepublica. I would not taste it, if it is totally free. I don't want to eat anything that is mean and ferocious looking. And an alligator does not seem appealing to me when it comes to eating. I think that I would be disgusted. I can eat from a cow before I eat from an alligator.

I think that I would take the chance if I was offered to taste the crocodile meat. But I am sure it wouldn't become a habit for me to have that type of meat once in a while. I am still not sure about the conditions the crocodiles are kept in, it's possible that these farms don't have healthy atmosphere for keeping these beasts here. And I don't support keeping animals in horrible conditions. I would give it a try just because my curiosity.

hi biomechanoid! i guess it's normal for us to think first about how meat for human consumption is kept and prepared before eating them, right? just like you, i wouldnt try eating a kind of meat without being certain how that meat was kept, prepared and cooked. thanks for sharing your thoughts and regards!

I live in Florida and alligator tail is sold here in burger joints and cafe's around the state, not bad tasting, not fishy, not like chicken, but there is a required taste, at least for me, i can take it or leave it.

hi max1950! since alligators and crocodiles are distant relatives so to speak, it could be true that croc's meat is really as good-tasting as that of the alligator's. thanks for sharing!

I tried it before while down South. I didn't care for it much but then again I don't like much meat outside of certain fish, beef, turkey and chicken.

I like to taste everything, at least once, so I'd try a crocburger. I bet it does taste good. Are you sure it's considered an exotic in the Philippines? Aren't crocodiles native? So then, it would be like us eating buffalo burgers... Buffalo, while they sound exotic, are native to the US.

hello hoferp! actually i havent tried crocodile meat yet, but at the rate some Filipinos are loving it, i guess it sure does taste good. we have native breeds here as well, but the meat that's fast becoming a hit here is that of farm-bred ones, so it's considered an exotic delicacy here. thanks for sharing and regards!

I heard that the Chinese use it as a natural cure for asthma.

hi mdengwm! well that's good news. aside from crocodiles being bred for their meat, they have therapeutic properties as well, as what you've heard. thanks for sharing your thoughts and regards!

hi bananarepublic I think I would give it a try but cannot say whether or not eat the rest of it. Its good that the Phillipines have foumd some ways to make good money. I have tasted snake which I do not really like, rabbit which makes me sick to think about , and bison meat which is like beef with sugar on it,yucky really. So I am game to try something and just will not promise I will eat more of it. lol lol lol.

I never had the opportunity to get to try the Ground alligator meat before. But I have heard that the exotic animal meats do have a gamey taste to them. I am one of those people that would like to try everything so I think I would like to try to taste some alligator meat if I could.

Really? Crocodile meat? I can understand why it is expensive because crocodile breeders here in our place spend lots of money feeding these crocs which are fed with chickens. These crocs are in the zoo and they get the money to feed the animals from the gate fee charged those who go to this mini zoo.

Well i wouldn't mind trying it. Since i really love exotic foods. I think crocodile meat is a bit harder and leaner compared to beef since i think they don't have that much fat compared on livestock animals. The price seems a bit costly, but i wouldn't mind trying and tasting it.
