Catfish Jerky?

My roommate is pulling out the dehydrator this morning and is going to dehydrate orange and grapefruit peels for flavorings for our tea we drink non-stop. But since the dehydrator is out, we started talking about making jerky. I love beef and turkey jerky, but he said I hadn't had anything until I tried his catfish jerky. Now I've tried salmon jerky, but never catfish. Do you like jerky? Do you make your own jerky? Do you use a dehydrator or do you use another method? What's your favorite jerky? Thanks for your response.

hhmm I love jerky but dont eat seafood. I like beef, turkey, pork, elk, and buffalo. We slow bake it in the oven. I have no9t sprung for a dehydrator yet. I really should, but goodness storing all of these kitchen gadgets is hard! So I have a friend that has one, she is also my pickle and jam hook up I supply her husband with fresh pico de gallo and chili pepper. she will dehydrate anything I ask her to.

I love everything you love, plus fish. I've used the oven before, but it was a pain for me. When my little sister was alive, we use to make beef jerky all the time. That's why I sprung for a dehydrator. Fortunately, I have room in this house for not only my dehydrator, but my roommate's. We had both going yesterday. Having your neighbor do it works for me. That's even better than borrowing. When you borrow, you have to clean it to like new, because you don't know if that stain, grease, etc. was there before or after you borrowed the item. So I end up always having to do twice as much work. P.S., I love pico de gallo and chili pepper too. Some of my favorites!

I've eaten the occasional beef jerky from the store. Never eaten any that was homemade, and never anything but beef.

Homemade is good, if sometimes not better. My favorites are beef, turkey and oryx (African gemsbok). Thanks for commenting.

I didn't even know catfish jerky existed. I haven't had any form of jerky in quite some time, but I do like it. I'd definitely be willing to try catfish jerky, and maybe salmon jerky. I had a bad experience with salmon bisque once, and after that I am kind of leery about eating anything with salmon.

Well, we didn't have any catfish, so we stuck chicken, rock fish and tilapia in the dehydrator. I just tasted some rock fish and it's good. It's not dried enough, but it should be done in a few more hours. I don't know why I haven't used the dehydrator in a few years. It's really not as much work as I thought I remembered. Sorry you had a bad experience with salmon...I love it smoked, fresh, dehydrated, etc. Have a great day and thanks for your comments.

that sounds interesting..! now you mentioned it, i do wonder how would it taste like.. i've tried making my own jerky, but it turned out something like a dish that i had when i visited Indonesia. i think they call it 'dendeng' or something like that. no dehydrator necessary, we just pounded the beef strips, let it marinate for a couple of days in some spices while in the fridge. we threw away the water and liquids that seeped out of the beef over the two days. pan fried the strips after the marinating. and it came out all chewy, slightly crispy along the edges and sinfully delicious :)

It sounds sinfully delicious. I like marinating my jerky in chile spices. I like my food spicy/hot. What marinate do you like to use? Thanks for responding.
