Hello Christians myLotters! I got this question when I read Christ's prophecy in Matthew 24:5 " For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many." In our time, I guess it's not out of our knowledge that there are more than thousand of religion or religious sector all over the world, and all of them teaching about christ. In the old testament, God called a prophet to delivered God's words, and in the new testament, during Christ era, it's Jesus Christ who commanded the apostle's to teach the scriptures. Now, at present time, where did these pastors, or whatever they call, got the right or an authority to preach the words of God? Was God or Christ spake to them?

Supposedly, men (and women) feel the call of God to the ministry of preaching and/or teaching. BUT... they're not allowed to do that until man gives them permission, which involves years in school, learning - what they learn, I'm not sure, but they study the Bible for one thing.
Why man thinks he has the right to give or withhold permission for someone to follow God's calling, I will never understand.

I find it interesting that folks dismiss Apostles and prophets in these days.
They are here and they are ligitimately set into thier offices by the Holy Spirit, and will be here until Christ comes for the church.
If one reads Ephesians 4:11 through about verse 16, you'll see that their function will:
bring the church into unity - deliver it from every wind of doctrine - to epuip the servants of the Lord for their ministries, etc.
The Lord is coming for a perfect church, not as mankind looks at it, but as it please Him - and the ministries listed in Ephesians, are to fring the church to that place - if not - the Lord won't come.
The human mind and reasoning do a great dis-service to God's word and to the true trustin of God to choose whom He chooses to do what He desires or commands. We are to but be His obedient servants.

Hey good guys,
It's easy to self-claim that he is a God's messenger, but think of this, if they were really sent from God (referring to present time)why they are not same in teaching, other pastor says "Jesus is only human or man", other says "God the father, Jesus, and Holy spirit are one" other says "God allow to marry hundred wives" If they were from God, they should talk only one. So, it is a manifestation that they were not from God because of different teaching. Remember, from Moises to Paul in new testament, their teaching are really sameness, no contradiction, same spirit.

Maybe maybe not. The bible says to test everything. Just because someone is a leader in a church, doesn't mean they are preaching the word of God. You should test them. Get your bible out, and compare it to what they are saying. As long as you have the ability to read, and some common sense you should be able to figure it out. The bible is a very simple book.

I'm not sure where they get the right to preach. I've heard some bad preachers and some good preachers. And I take them all with a grain of salt. I've been attending church in this town for over a year and last year we had a interim pastor that really wanted to see how far he could toe the line. He basically delivered a mean sermon, saying God led him that particular sermon, that we were playing church, with our music, prayer requests, etc. I felt like it was especially mean, because that church has been worshipping that way long before I came to it. The old saying goes, if it is not broke, don't fix it. But, most of the congregation stood by him. Most meaning everybody except me. I almost quit that church because of the whole thing. I felt he was way off base and still feel that way.

Hi Steinway,
When it comes to faith, our bases is the scriptures in order for us not to deceive. In fact there is a commandment to test every spirit if it is of God (1 John 4:1) Try to ask a question to your pastor about the bible, if he answered from the scripture he might be of God, but if he answered in his own words make a doubt from him. Thanks for your time to respond, God Bless my friend!
