I can say no one yeilds to me when I'm out riding my bike.Cars are supposed to share the road with bicyclists, and they hog the road instead.I have to ride my bike because I don't drive,so it's my transportation.Motorists seem to hate when someone's riding there bike on the roads.(Bike riders and motorists are welcome to comment on this discussion). When I did drive I always let pedestrians cross the street,I stopped for them. What experiences do you have either being a pedestrian or motorist?

Hi, Java09. I am sorry that drivers don't adhere to you as you are riding your bike. This has happened to me too, when I walk that is. The cars will see me waiting and they won't even let me get pass. They will keep on driving. And when some of the cars go, there is always someone that is slower than all of the others. This makes me have to wait more longer than usual. I have seen where many people will let me walk past. They will stop the car so that I can walk pass their car. I think that this is very generous of them. It is nice that drivers do stop for pedestrians. It is always nice to do so. People whom are driving should yield to pedestrians and motorists, plus children that are walking... This is part of having a driver's license. This was taught to every driver or potential driver.

Yeah. Same here too. You have some considerate human beings and others that just don't care if you or I will wait.. They are in such a hurry to get to where they are going. It is a shame that they don't stop. They should have more respect for others that are sharing the road as they are. They will have to remember that they are not the only ones that are on the road. We all, are supposed to look out for each other while we are on the road and highways.

I live in a college town so lots of pedestrians in my neighborhood. I watch for them. I do stop if they appear to be wanting to cross. What I really hate is when they just walk right out in front of you with no warning at all. That happens a lot. Bikes? I am pretty patient with them as well. I used to use a bike as my main means of transportation. I do see them going against the flow of the traffic or out in the middle of the road really slowing down traffic which can be kind of irritating. If they are off to the side, I will slowly follow them until I can safely get around them.

I just don't understand why people can't be a little courteous of pedestrians.I've always stopped to let people cross and I gave all bikers some leeway.Bikes have the right to ride in the street where I live.

I know, Java. I think most people around here actually do try to be courteous to them. It works both ways. Where I live, the biggest problem I see is that many of them just walk or run out in front of you with no warning. I've come so close to hitting a person so many times. I don't drive above 10 MPH down by the college because they are the worst. My home is in the neighborhood of the college so I can't avoid it. I would never forgive myself if I hurt someone. A few weeks back, one of them pounded on the hood of my car as I crept by and screamed at me to "f-in stop!". I was looking at both sides of the road and trying to watch the traffic in front of me as well. I swear I didn't see him. He was dressed in black and it was night time and not on a crosswalk. I've followed bikes where two people riding together take up the road and cause traffic to move very slow rather than ride along the side.

I yield for them if they are insisting on crossing in front of me. However, if they are standing and waiting and I have the right of way, than no I don't stop and wave them across when they shouldn't be crossing; that is more dangerous for them than if they wait till they have the right of way.

HI, it is really depend. A lot of people are crazy out there and madness when they are driving. They would not stop for you or think you might have an accident with you or something... all they think just go and speed up. I do drive and I always let pedestrians cross the road. You ride a bicycle then you should be really careful cuz they dont look for you but you have to look for them. Dont dare to cross if you think the driver will speed... accident can happen anytime and ur life is not depend on them

A classmate of mine was very impressed when she went to New Zealand to work as a Nurse. According to her, traffic rules were closely observed by the people. Even without anyone crossing the street, motorists/drivers always slowed down or even stopped infront of pedestrian lanes. Here in the Philippines, when the pedestrian lane is located where there is no traffic light to regulate the timing when pedestrians stop or go motorists barely stop even when you signal them to. Here, everyone feels like the boss. So if you are not careful, then sorry. As for bicycles, there are no bike lanes here too (in my province) so if they join among the large vehicles, riders face a lot of risks.
