Mylot PM abuse?

Do you feel like the pm system is bring abused to get referrals? Too many times, I see a discussion like "paying site, not ptc" and I would read the discussion or ask for the name so I can research it more on Google. Then I would receive a response lik PM me. So I add them as a friend but by the time they accept, I forget about the whole thing. Has this ever happened to you or do you just ignore these discussions completely? Do you feel that people are abusing the PM and friend system in this way? If so, how can we stop it?

Discussions that promote sites and give nothing to discuss are violations and we can and should report them. Admin will remove them all. I don't respond on those discussions unless it is to tell the starter that they are abusing myLot. I prefer to contact directly through PM if I am interested. PMs with un-called for links can also be reported. That is spam and it is not acceptable. I must admit to being lucky. I have many friends on my list but am not bombarded with PMs promoting sites. We exchange information but none of them send links without asking permission first. Maybe I scare them off?

I feel it's being caused cuz of referal links and most of the time, newbies do this, which is kind of irritating. I mean, they'd have to read first the rules but they don't even do that. They're new and yet they abuse the system.

Yes, I have had to reject PM requests because they had no posts and no activity. I was thinking to myself, you want to spam me or what?

You're right. And i suggest you be careful who you accept as a friend. Some newbies really just takes advantage of pm.

It is slightly abused I'll admit, but people here are trying to earn money, so anyway to bypass the system seems logical to them. Even I do it (sometimes...!)

Yes, but I would think that someone like you knows the value behind myLot and take more responsible measures like offering a friend a site and not a complete stranger that they added just to spam them.

people do this because one they want interested people. Two because it is against the rules to post what they want to post. also once you pm then you can still look it up its not that hard.

Yes, I just feel like it would benefit everyone if they posted the site name instead. By the way, I sent a PM about that site you were talking about.

Yes, especially with the notifications. It can become very intimidating and even discouraging. But as long as it keeps the spam out, I find with it.

Ironically, the absolute best way NOT to get referrals is what many people are doing. That is the PM me garbage. I also call this the " I know something you don't know" game and the only way to get the answer your seeking is through a PM so that that person will wind up with a referral. I find that extremely intrusive. If anyone has something to share , share it with the community or if it is a link, put it in your profile and reference it as such, for all to share. I'd rather be a referral for someone who wanted to share and had nothing to hide.

Yes, I know what you mean as I never join under people who spam me. I will join under a friend or a downlinebuilder in a forum. I don't join in sites like Getref or downlinerefs unless I know the site is not very legit. Then I do not have to worry about referrals. The newbies who come to spam at myLot don't understand that they will eventually be rewarded for sharing their knowledge of sites, in both earnings and referrals.
