Using RSS widgets from AC to promote content

Ok writing friends, does any of you have any experience using the RSS widgets from AC to promote your content on your blogs or other writing sites? How exactly does it work and do you find it has helped your page views at all? I have seen the little RSS icon in the margin on my blog but have not known how to really utilize it to my advantage. Is this something that is going to be worth my time to do? What's your take?
