Contact Lenses

I have always wanted to have one, most especially when they came out with different colors. But my Ophthalmologist refuse to give me one because of the complications he know about them. Well, I'm not really complaining anymore because the studies he has really done himself shows the horrifying things happening to people with contact lenses most especially if they're not really responsible enough to have one.
Well, as far as I know, I don't think I'm very disciplined either. Which is why till I am confident enough, I should just let it be. Further, the grade of my eyes are quite okay still, I do have glasses but will only resort to using them when I'm really dizzy or nauseated already - which is about a week a year.
Anyhow, for those who have one, here are tips that you need to abide by:
Important Contact Lens Care Tips
* Follow recommended wearing schedule.
* Do not substitute sterile saline solutions for multi-purpose solutions.
* Rub and rinse your contact lenses as directed by your eye care professional.
* Do not “top-off” the solutions in your case. Always discard all of the leftover contact lens solution after each use. Never reuse any lens solution.
* Clean, rinse and air-dry your lens case each time lenses are removed.
* Do not expose your contact lenses to any water: tap, bottled, distilled, lake or ocean water.
* Contact your eye care professional if you experience any symptoms of eye irritation or infection.

My daughter uses contact lenses and she gets on very well with them. She has been wearing glasses since she was 4 years old and she wanted to try the contacts as she is fed up of keep buying the glasses as they cost soo much for the frames. She sees the eye people every 2 months now but when she first started using them she had to go back every other week. The thought of even putting anything in my eye makes me feel sick.

You get used to putting them in your eye real quick. You can't feel them at all, unless they fold over or rip or something weird, but eyelashes bother me 10 times more. Your eyes are actually a lot stronger than you think. The only part that's sensitive is the color part and that's the part the contact covers. It actually works like a shield sometimes. If dirt or something blows in your eyes and you have contacts on, it hurts a lot less. It's pretty cool. Chlorine hurts less too, but that does dry out the lenses, which sucks.

Thank you for the tips. I have been using contacts lens for more than 15 years now. I follow MOST of the instructions. The only thing I do not do is to clean, rinse and air-dry my lens case each time. The first time I started using contact lens, I used to use it daily. But after having my kids, I wasn't a regular user....found glasses easier to put on and remove ...and it was also possible to take a nap/rest whenever I needed without having to take my lens off and put them on when I was up. When I started working, I went back to contact lenses daily. Now that I've quit work, contact lenses are worn occassionally. All the more reason for me to clean, rinse and air-dry the lens case each time I use them. But sadly, that's one thing I do not do...and I'm going to start doing it now. When I would use my lenses everyday, it wasn't practical to do it on a daily basis (and my ophthamologist never advised me to)

Hi, Laydee! These are great tips, and I want to thank you for the reminder. I do wear contacts, and sometimes I forget how careful I need to be with wearing them each day. One practice I do on a regular basis that was on your list is to throw out the solution each time I'm done soaking my contacts for the night. It might seem easier to top off the solution, but dirty contacts were soaking in there overnight - at least, that's how I look at it! So why would I put more clean solution on top of the old, dirty solution? Maybe if more people looked at it this way, they wouldn't top off their solution the next time their contacts need to soak. I know you mentioned you don't wear contacts. As little as you need and wear your glasses, I'm sure your eyes are probably good enough that you don't even need contacts. Some people don't have enough moisture in their eyes to wear contacts. Whatever the circumstances, I know they're not for everyone. I hope that someday if you find you would like to wear them that you will find something that works for you. Thanks again for the friendly reminders of how to properly take care of contacts. I try to keep mine as clean as possible, but thank goodness, they are also a disposable kind, so I always get a fresh pair each month. Take care!

Dear laydee,
Thanks for the useful information and tips!
Truly appreciate it
I have been using contact lenses for many years till 2005 when
I stop working. It is quite tedious. However when one use to it,
then it is okay. I do agree that at times my eyes do experience
discomfort and irritation especially after a long hour of wearing
it. This normally happened when I stayed back in the office for
overtime. It is advisable that we should have our spectacle/glass
standby with us in our hand bag at all times...
Thanks for sharing and take care :)

Oh my this much complication for that little thing, then its not worth wearing i guess and choose for second option like going for a laser surgery would be better off than going for a contact lenses, but lazier surgery too has complication and guidelines o be followed as well like 2 weeks rest, and that eye should be fit for it,not ever one can do it, if your eye is that much blind better go for eye transplant. anyway lazier surgery better than wearing lenses that has to thousands of restrictions and complications that needed to be followed. anyway better take care of your eye people thats a gift we got from god,and am thankful that i can still see and am not wearing glasses for i can see.

I've been wearing contact lenses for about the past 10 years. I still have a back up pair of glasses for when my eyes are itchy, tired, and I'm just too lazy to put the contacts in. I have had NO problems with them at all. And my eyesight has stopped getting worse. With glasses, it just kept degrading... I'm very strict about caring for my lenses for. I don't want infections or worse to go blind. So I take them out each night and properly care for them. Once in a while I've passed out without taking them out which sucked in the morning when they were all dry. But I haven't had an complications from it. I always wash my hands before handling the lenses and I visit my eye doctor regularly to get them checked.

I've worn contacts for about three years now and I've never had any problems. They are really easy to have as long as you follow the directions your eye doctor gives you. Just make sure to keep them clean is the main thing. I always write the date down on my calendar for when I need to change mine but contacts start feeling kinda funny when it's time to change them, so you basically know anyway.

I used to wear contact lenses but I stopped a year ago and started wearing ordinary glasses. I am not so good with handling contact lenses and sometimes it is the cause of eye irritation so I opted not to wear contact lenses before I get eye infections. Hehehehe. :D

Thanks for the tips. I like to get one too. I like the color like dracula'S eyes. It's kinda cool and scary. Or maybe a cat's eyes just to be different. Lol.

i;ve been a contact lens user for more than 10 years now. the main concern is have is that i have developed the "lid roughness" and there are times when it gets bad that i am advised to refrain from using contact lenses until the roughness subsides. this is irreversible though so as much as possible i just use my glasses when at home and lens when i go out.

I've always wanted to try contact lenses. But I get so freaky about touching my eye! I just want to look freaky.
