What do you do when you get nervous?

I get nervous whenever I speak with people who are superior to me. I get nervous when I will be going to have a personal conversation with my boyfriend. I get nervous when I am about to say a speech in front of my classmates. I get nervous when my teacher call me for an answer to his question and I don't know what to answer. Every time I feel that way, I always take a deep sigh. Sometimes I go to a place where no one can hear me much and I shout there. Sometimes I do some exercises to release my feeling of being nervous. How about you?

Hi! I do not get nervous, when facing the situations, as mentioned by you. I do not hesitate to reply or ask a question. You need to practice in front of mirror to overcome your nervousness.

Whenever I get so nervous, my voice starts to shake. I feel like my tongue is tied up or should I say I get so tongue tied whenever I get nervous... But if there is a must to be serious then I'm glad that I was able to manage it.

What I normally do when I get nervous, especially when talking in front of a crowd, I had a coin in my hand. I dont know if this is an urban legend or something, but it help me take away that eeky feeling. I tend to focus on the coin in my hand than the people in front of me. Then I can deliver my speech or finish my class well. That was before when I still haven't overcome my fear or nervousness. But right now I'm more confident than before.

I try to overcome my feeling of awkwardness and everything. Close my both hands tightly and take a deep breath. Try it to yourself and I am sure you can do it. It is our hold how to keep ourselves in the actual response of different situations. We are the master of what we are going to do in our life so try to do good things to yourself specially the shyness to audience. Hope you can do it.

Thanks for useful suggestion. Taking deep breath has been proven to be effective in most cases. Plus, saying to yourself "I can do it!" .It helps build up self confidence and positive outlook.

I too get nervous when speaking in front of people, even though they are my friends and classmates. I tremble or shake and could not talk when I am nervous. To put my self back in place again, I meditate and concentrate. I breathe deep and slowly. If the shaking and nervous is very high. I Growl, scream and shout. hehe

Everyone experiences nervousness now and then. Over the time, normally they will find their own ways to overcome it. As for me, I will take a deep breath and prepare to hear the worst. It may not erase all the feelings of 'wanting to run the other way', but it helps me to face whatever that makes me nervous. I told myself that if it is meant to happen it will happen, no matter how we try to evade or postpone it.

Well, I still think of positive things no matter how nervous I am. According to one book I read, having fear or nervousness won't do anything to solve problems or make a solution out of it.

I do get slightly nervous when I have to do some public speaking. But years of practice have lessened my nervousness but my heart still beats a little faster than usual when I start. My mother says that despite my brave front, I am basically a shy person. I think she's right.

Congratulations for overcoming your nervousness. I guess, I am like you also. I am really a shy person but the people arounds me always encourage me by saying positive words. I am lucky because they are always positive about me. I also agree with you that doing public speaking over and over again will lessen the nervousness.

I think getting nervous is normal to some point in our life. Yeah I do get nervous when driving in a heavy traffic, exchanging from one lanes to another, so I let my husband drive .LOL! from there my nervous system goes back to normal.! I get nervous too if my baby fell out of bed, because I am afraid his bone might break or make any discomfort on him that's hard. so we quickly rush to the hospital and check everything. when findings is okey, my nervous system cool down again. I do tried to keep myself calm down as far as I could because if not this can lead to heart attack. mental block.! so calm down. If you can't control it maybe you need to see a doctor for your case, I am sure they always give certain medication for panick attack!

Hello, Annierose. When I get nervous, I always take a deep breath first and then try to keep myself calm down and encourage myself, which does work to a certain extent. Sometimes, I also try to ease my tension through having a good meal. Wonderful food always will bring me some satisfaction. And sometimes, I let it go without doing anything since actually I do not know what should I do anything to fix the problem by myself, which is really an extreme disgusting situation. Happy mylotting!

Even though we are nervous sometimes , we must still do what we are supposed to do. Sometimes, I just say a little prayer that may God give me enough strength to overcome this feeling and may I do successfully what I am supposed to do.

Hum...The problem with my when I am nervous is that sometimes, I cannot get what I want. For example, on a job interview, when the interviewer is already asking me some questions,I run out of vocabulary and my grammar is very unpleasant. All because I cannot remove nervousness. It always gives me a bad day.

I'm a nervous person to begin with. I'm always picking on my nails or playing with my hair. And it seems if I'm on idle, like at the factory that I work at, I have to move my leg or something. Basically, I for some odd reason I don't like being put on idle. As far having stuff that makes me get nervous. I would say, the first time I played offeratory at church, would be a good example. My hands got clammy and I didn't know if I was going to sink or swim on that experiment.

They say that if a person is addicted to coffee, he or she is always nervous. I don't know if it is true. However, I am not addicted to coffee but still I feel nervousness in me. When I am nervous, I get tongue-tied and my heart beat fast.

That is true! In order not to be so nervous in front of the audience, you should know what your topic will be all about. That way, you will gain mastery and won't feel much tension.

There are a few things that I tend to do when I nervous. One thing that I do is that I pace back and forth a lot. To the point where I nearly pace a hole in the floor. Yeah, pacing can be used for many things. I tend to use it to help stimulate the brain when I am thinking. However, it can also be used as a mechanism to help relieve stress when I am nervous. So that's what I do and that helps me a little bit. I tend to use the bathroom a lot. Or rather just go in one. There is just something about the surroundings of the bathroom that comforts me a lot. I tend to go there about four or five times in a short amount of time when I am nervous. Especially before I take final exams. There is just something about the bathroom area that is most comforting but I cannot put my finger on it. Then there is chocolate. Good old chocolate. I tend to eat quite a bit of it when I get nervous. That is just a great way to help calm the nerves when I am nervous. I can never go wrong with a good bit of chocolate. There is just something about eating a bit of chocolate that calms the nerves. Of course those are just some of the few things that I do to deal with my nerves.

well, everytime I get nervous I try to sing some song or to lie down on the bed if i am at home and listen to some of my favorite music, because it makes me feel much better and it calms me down. I know that there are many people who have problems with their nervousity and their anger i also have been such a person years ago but now I am not and I am really proud that I have alsready handle it and now i can surely say, that I am a calm person with no nerve problems and it is reall good. some friends of mine also do some yoga exercises in order to calm down when they are nercvous but I haven't tried it till date, maybe mecause the yoga exercises are a little bit too expensive for me and I prefer to do it my way, because it really works and it is frree

You can try some yoga exercise on youtube. When I was got sick, my boyfriend told me to have some yoga exercise. I just follow the steps on yoga exercise on youtube and it really makes me feel great. I feel relax. Not only my body benefitted from that exercise but my emotion as well. I believe one can control himself or herself and be calm whenever he or she is doing some yoga exercises.

When I get nervous I make joke and sometimes I breath deeply to ease the tension inside my body. Sometimes when I am infront of them I just think that I am above them and I am confident to have this speech and smile at them with my chin up.

That is good that you have self confidence within you. I guess we should just practice having a self confidence and do believe in ourselves. If others can control their nervousness, why can't we, right?

Actually,I always get nervous when I speak in front of strangers.I feel a blush warm my cheeks when someone look at me.A teacher told me that you could just stare at people's forehead instead of bending your head or looking around. It is very effective.Because if you look around or bend head, you will be more Uncomfortable, which will amplify the tension.
