hi...friends...i live in a non native speaking country, so English is my foreign language not the second. i'm glad to be able to speak in English. so, i always try to speak, write and read fluently. one thing that i notice, when creating a new discussion or commenting on someone's topic, i will write or type as perfect as i can according to English grammar. so do you pay attention on good grammar when writing new discussions or commenting on topics?why?

English is not my native tongue as well. If we can, let's try our best to communicate English in perfect grammar. That way, others who are less fluent can also learn. And we can even better understand each other. English language is what unites the people around the world, it's almost mandatory to learn it. Let's just hope that native English speakers and those who are not but already fluent will not bash those who are just starting to learn. It's very usual in fora that when people get angry at somebody, they will flame by pointing out grammar errors.

not all members here are from english country so of course not all can write english very well though others will understand but those whose perfectionist and narrow minded might mind your grammar. but since we are also here to practice our english then i guess no problem with it, as long as you can explain it very well understandable by us. good discussion is not by perfecting grammar alone but on how you understand the topic. little by little you will also learn your english here so dont mind other people out there, at least you try your best.

Hi, friend. My answer to this question is definite. Grammar is essential in mylot discussions. I'm not a native English speaker too, but I always do my best to avoid making stupid grammatical mistakes to make myself clearly understood. However, I've seen lots of discussions written in poor grammar and I can't figure any sense from them though the title itself may seem interesting. As a result, I often end up turning to other well-written discussions. Some people seem to care little about grammar and express themselves in English that can only be understood by themselves.

Just to nitpick (I love nitpick): grammar is essential to most verbal communication. I don't think there's any human language that doesn't have any language, so yes, grammar is crucial :-) Now, how important do I think correct grammar is when posting on mylot. I always try to make as few mistakes as possible, not only because I get annoyed by my own mistakes but also because it's easier to read for everybody else. I'm more likely to join discussion by posters with good English. Or lets say more or less good English. It's really no problem to understand your post I think, but some posters just leave me baffled as to what they're trying to say. Then I usually go on to the next discussion :-)

Don't worry. I don't pay attention to grammar. I pay more attention to how the writer exert his effort in using the English language. I can see that even if you are not a fluent English writer, you are doing very well. Keep up the good work. Just read and write English more and you will see improvements.

I usually observe some discussions and responses that are grammatically wrong and also the spelling. I think its because some were not really good at it but I believe they try their best to express themselves the best they could. My friend who recently joined here is not that good at it but tries her best to respond in the best way she can and she believed that through this her grammar can be improved. I do the same too, I do respond to the discussion which I think was in good grammar because I wanted them to somehow express my thought clearly.

yes. i think i've been doing that since i was a kid at school. that's why i don't really like speaking or writing in english (even my college thesis was written in my mother tongue). whenever i have to communicate in english, i always feel this urge to check if i'm doing it right, although i am NOT always sure if i'm grammatically correct or if i ever make sense. hahahah... i always make attempts to at least not give my readers or listeners a hard time understanding me. and so because of that urge to always check myself, i don't really like english. i felt bad when it was declared our second language. it worsens when even staying here, or not working abroad, i can only earn money or get a better job if i'm fluent and articulate in english. i'm not really liking it when i have to communicate with my fellowmen in that language. NONETHELESS, i am doing my very best to be VERY comfortable with it because only then will i be able to converse naturally (without constantly checking myself) with people around the globe. i don't think native english speakers even worry about their grammar.^_^ it's all about being natural and comfortable. so here in mylot, it's a "go" as long as you're main point is understood.

As far as I am concerned, I think the grammar in mylot is noot so strick, which alllow us have the right to make few mistakes. But even this, I think we should try our best to make as few mistake as we can.More mistake that happens in your posts, then it willl be deleted by the admin. SO sometimes keep attention to the Grammar is necessary.

Although having good grammar is an advantage in online forums/discussion like this so that readers can easily understand what you mean, please be reminded that this is a forum or discussion and not an "Article Writing Website" like Bukisa or Article Alley where you are required to submit articles in highest grammar standard.

Yes I do try my very best. Although there are a lot of times when I couldn't help but inject "slang". Only to realize later on that the word I used might become a hindrance for some people to easily relate to my responses. I guess we also need to put in consideration those things such as slang. Or if we do put one on, we should also have the courtesy in explaining a li'l something about that word.

I check my grammar once in a while, but most of the time I don't. I get so tired of reviewing my grammar when posting a response or a discussion. I don't check my grammar especially when I am in a hurry, when I am trying to reach a goal of responses per day. But i just see to it that my english is understandable. I hope you understood my english, this is just one of those I have mentioned wherein I didn't check my grammar.

hi workoutfreak, i am also not that good in english but i'm really trying my best to respond or post something in the best way i can.here in mylot,it doesn't matter if you have wrong grammar, but it is also a place where you can improve your writings as well.as long as everyone can understand you,i think you'll be alright.you don't have to get out of here! mylot welcomes members from all over the world, and good thing we get along with each other and communicate in a language everyone can/must/obliged to understand! everyone can understand each other's discussions here that's why it's easier to learn more of english language and learn from discussions itself! the first time i joined here,i didn't think i could do a lot of writings, but i guess i'm improving my english language here, thanks to mylot!

I don't think it's essential to write in perfect English on MYlot :) Just good enough that people can understand you. However when someone flames you , it is important to talk in a more formal sophisticated manner , so that you can effectively counter attack. Also , so that they don't use that as a way of insulting your intelligence.
