"An ear worm refers to any song that is so catchy, and at the same time extremely annoying, that it feels like a worm has crawled into your ear and eaten the intelligent parts of your brain so that you hum the song all day long, no matter how much you hate it." --Urban Dictionary Thursday, as I was doing some landscaping work for a friend, Hawksley Workman's Warhol's Portrait of Gretzky kept running through my head. I think it even did a couple laps first thing Friday morning. But then it stopped, thankfully. Unfortunately, it played on the radio later Friday afternoon and the torture started again. Now, it's not a bad tune, per se, just when a line or two keeps repeating ad nauseum ad infinitum. So, what's burrowing it's uninvited way through your brain?

Hey there..been through that myself. When an irritating song ( to me , not necessarily to everyone else) keeps playing all around you. An example would be " Who's Gonna Run This Town Tonight" by Jay-Z & Rihanna. It ain't a bad song but it gets on my nerves! Also Lady Gaga songs! And my brother keeps palying those songs and then the airwaves are full of them and sometime during the day, the song creeps into your mind and you end up humming it subconsciously and when you realise what you just hummed, you think " now why am I singing that stupid song!! i would term it as " stuck-in-your-head-till-it-annoys-the-crap-outta-you" syndrome lol.

I've heard them called that before. They're SO annoying. I don't mind a song being stuck in my head if it's a song that I like. I can sing a song I like for weeks and never get tired of it. But when a song I don't like gets stuck in my head, I feel like I'm about to go crazy! Anything by Lady Gaga is an ear worm for me. I don't like her music, but I hear her songs all the time and they get stuck in my head all the time.

It wouldn't be so bad if the whole song played through, but when it's just a line or two, over and over like a broken record, that's when it gets annoying.

Elections had been over but i still have this LSS over campaign jingle. I hate the song but i caught myself even singing the song when i'm in the shower. I usually cut myself short when i'm conscious about it but unlike actual singing, there's no way i can take it out of my thoughts.

It could be worse, I guess. Ever read/watch Johnny Nemonic?
