Tomorrow will be the election day here in the Philippines and I think everybody is excited to vote.Everyone has their new hope of having a president that will have the ability to make a change in our country. I just notice with the candidates that once a certain person is achieving more survey results and positive impact with people, many will try everything just to put that person down. Well, that is not only for those running on different positions but as well as to those ordinary people. If someone is getting wealthy or promoted on his or her job, for sure, someone will have a negative saying on that person. What do you think is the reason for this crab mentality? How can we get away from it?

Crab mentality is not present only during elections. To be honest, this attitude of Filipinos is very embarrassing. I'm not quite sure with other countries, but this is a very common behavior in our country. IMO, the very first reason for this is JEALOUSY. People are jealous when anyone gets ahead of them. Each and every one of us wants to be on the top. But sad to say, instead of helping one another, they step pull the persons who are on top so that they can at least fell down to the same level at least. It's almost next to impossible to eradicate this attitude. Although there's still a possibility to do so. By first doing it yourself first. Before judging and changing other people, you must first see if your not even one of them. If one started it, many will follow.

hi anjel, I do agree with you. If you want a change, that change must come with you first. It is because how can someone make a change if you yourself cannot make it. People always look up to someone and what does someone usually do, they always follow.

so sad that i cannot perform my right to vote. crab mentality is a sickness here in the philippines that will be hard to cure, much harder than cancer. when a person sees someone going up, there is a feeling of envy, being down, and they think that a good way to be able to hide it is to say something bad to that person, even if it is not true, there is still a tendency that someone will believe him/her. we will not get away with it, my dear. no one will do it.. we are all hungry for power. i just hope that when someone will be granted the power to lead, the only best thing to do is follow..

I just hope that the leader will not be not that worse as the present administration. It is very hard to follow if you know that whom you are following with is not having any characteristic of a good leader. I hope still that there is still an existing person who can lead this country without thinking of his or her personal interest.

That is the price for anyone to pay for becoming successful as the basic human mentality the jealousy is still lurking there in every person's mind.

It is very difficult to solve. It not only deals with politicians but with ordinary people as well. We can see that sometimes to children. It is all because they see the older people do same. I hope time will come we will be aware on our attitudes and stop doing the things we know is not right.

for me the reason for having a crab mentality is that a person thinks he is the better than the one who is approved by others. i also believe that people desire to be accepted and be approved by other people, they want to be recognized, they want other people to feel their existence. all people wants to be needed by other people because when no one needs you, it is the time when you have no existence at all

That is true. Acceptance is a very challenging part in one's lives. It is not that easy especially if you are full of self confidence in yourself trying to make yourself believe that you are the best and no weaknesses at all.

jealousy, insecurity, and voer-competitiveness are probably the reasons why there is crab mentality. i dont know what the best solution to take away this mentality but i guess the world will be a better place without it. regarding the presidentiables... this is the reason why i'm voting for gibo. his campaign policy is to avoid mudslinging and just focus on his platform. i really really hope there is a miracle and that he wins.

thanks evepin. Gibo is one of the good candidates for presidentiables but there is something I am afraid of with him. I can see that he is a very intelligent man, in fact, a number of students like the way he answered on a debate. However, I cannot get away with the thinking that still he was being endorsed by our current president. I have observed that our current president is very intelligent also that is why she cannot be removed on her position. She appointed lots of people that is close to her or pro on her administration. There are many cases like Fertilizer scam, ZTE broadband, gift cheques, Hello Garci scandals and the case of Ampatuans which is not yet solved because the president is making some laws which hampers for those solutions to be solved. We all know that she knows those anomalies and she, herself is included with that or her husband, but nothing is happening. It is because she is trying to control everything with her power. Gibo is also like her who is intelligent and I am somewhat reluctant that same thing might happen with Gibo. However, I hope is not like GMA. Let us just hope for the best.

Because most of the Filipinos are so insecure with the people who are going up they are trying to pull them down because there are nowhere else but down. They are not happy seeing other people achieving great success in life while they are down. We are still haunted by past history that is why we are still at the doomed among other country. We dont let ourself move on and just try to praise each others achievement not pulling each other down.

I hope someday Filipinos will realized that truth. We should love one another and not say bad things again one another just because we want to attain power.

There are just some people that are too envious to other people. They think that they deserve better than the one, say, promoted. They cannot admit to themselves that there are those that are better than them or much better fit for the position. So either they are too egoistic or just too greedy that they want everything for themselves. It is hard to think of a cure for crab mentality.

All people have this tendency to really pull someone down once they go up. That is crab mentality and you alone can stop it. Just be happy for the success of others for whatever they have reached, they probably have to shed tears, blood and sweat. Learn for the success of others and as long as you they do not abuse someone else to get to the top, make them as your inspiration to do the same, not pull him down by spreading black propagandas. My president has to be Villar and whatever allegations made to him, that will not erase the fact that he worked clean and hard and if you smear his name, let us look at ourselves first. What have we done so far?
