Wisdom Tooth Extraction

This is my first time to undergo tooth extraction. I havent had any experience having a tooth extracted when I was a kid. I had a tooth cleaning and filling but haven't tried extraction. I'm scared since the last time I called my dentist, he mentioned that there will be a minor surgery during the extraction. I don't know what to do. I dont know what will happened. My widow tooth is impacted so it hurts sometimes. Im scared that it might cause more damage. I'm paranoid about it. Please share your ideas if you already tried it. Appreciate your thoughts.

I never had any problem with my wisdom tooth but I had lots of experience getting my other tooth extracted because they had formed cavities. I was eating too many chocolates and that did it. At least one the female dentist once caused me a lot of pain because the tooth was firmly embedded and she just could not pull it out. She did lot of digging around and still could not pull it out despite working on it for two long hours. May be she did not have the strength or the right technique. She asked me to come again after a few hours. She gave me few painkillers to relieve me of my pain. The male dentist pulled it out without any difficulty. My advice is that you must go to a good male dentist. He would give you a local anesthesia and pull it out without any difficulty. You might not even experience any pain.

I totally disagree with you. If your female dentist also gave you a pain killer which is the normal procedure she too could have succeeded in extracting your tooth. There could be another reason too. You must have resisted or even screamed when she even tried to give a little push. Gentle as she was she did not want to hurt you!!!

I hate being in the dentist's clinic... when I had a problem on my wisdom tooth before I used alternative... I used to place a garlic into the hole in the tooth... so that it will not hurt............... Friendly advice then... if you want to avoid going to the dentist so avoid chocolatesssssss.......

My tooth problem is not really due to eating sweets. My wisdom tooth got impacted. I think its a normal thing that usually happened to wisdom tooth. But yeah since its impacted already I avoid eating sweets since once it goes into the hole it causes pain. Argh!

I understand if you havent had an experience of having a wisdom tooth extracted when you were still young cause I think you are suppose to have the wisdom tooth when you are older. I think having the extraction is really painful.

it is? oh noh! I agree about having a wisdom tooth when your older. What I'm saying is that I haven't had any experience on tooth extraction, not just a wisdom tooth.. hehehe. Thanks for sharing P3ks.

At this moment I think a wisdom tooth is growing in my mouth. It kind of hurts but its tolerable. I've never had tooth extraction before too.. aside from the ones that pulled when i was kid. I've been thinking about going to the dentist and have my other wisdom tooth be pulled just like you. i'm having a hard time brushing and reaching it and eventually it will harbor cavities that may damage the tooth next to it. If I have the money I'll definitely undergo tooth extraction too. Since its your first time to have this tooth extraction, remember to listen to your dentist and RELAX. Relaxation can get you through surgeries. Do some deep breathing exercises and always think of the positive outcome. Put your trust to the dentist coz he knows what to do with your teeth. If this dentist is you family dentist then you don't have to worry about anything.

I have some wisdom teeth that need to be removed. They've needed it for a while actually. I've never gotten around to though because they don't hurt more than they do (it's not often they do hurt). But I do want to get them out as soon as I can since they do hurt sometimes. That said, I've never done it (yet) so I can't offer much. Maybe you can try watching some videos on YouTube? A lot of people have uploaded videos of themselves before, during, and after getting their wisdom teeth removed. I don't know if seeing it will make you feel better and/or help put your mind to ease but it's just a suggestion.

I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled but none of them were impacted. It actually went very smoothly. I didn't want to miss time from work so I set it up to have 1 side done at a time with both the upper and lower on that side done. I figured at least I'd be able to eat on one side. I had both pulled and was in my office at work within 2 hours, no issues really. I took some advil for the swelling that might come and did have to change the cotton 2x before I didn't need it anymore. All in all, it was nothing to worry about and if I'd known if was going to be so easy I'd have doen all 4 the same day instead of spacing it out over 2 visites. If they are impacted that means that he will need to maybe cut abit of your gums in order to get the tooth out and or break the tooth apart to get all of it. Try not to worry. Be sure that you get all your questions answered before they start and it should go fairly quickly. Good Luck!!

I seemed to have dealt with teeth pulling a lot when I was kid (cavity ridden teeth). I had my wisdom teeth extracted when I was in my early 20's - and it was minor surgery. Apparently my mouth wasn't big enough to hold all those teeth, so they thought it would be better to be extracted before they came out. I only had 3 (one was missing) - and one of them was growing weird I guess and would have impacted my teeth eventually. And so, I was put to sleep . . . they put a mask on me, and then gave me shot . . . they told me to count from 10 down . . . so 10, 9, 8, 7 then I was out. Next thing I knew, I was at home!! Apparently they had put knocked me out too much that I wouldn't wake up after surgery when I was supposed to so they had to carry me into the car so my mom could drive me home. My mouth was stuffed with gauze the next 24 hours and I had to change it every now and then. A little achey but honestly not too badly. Some people have it hard for a while - but I had it easy. The next day my boyfriend and I were able to shop at the mall . . . and I had a hamburger for lunch!!! Well, my jaw couldn't open wide enough, so I had to eat it in small bites with a fork and knife - ha ha. People think I'm crazy for trying to eat a burger after wisdom teeth surgery!!

i have experience that and its was hell for me at first. when i'm sitting at the dentist chair it feels like i'm going to be electrocuted , my hands are shaking and i can't speak well anymore. and when i saw the dentist handling a the syringe of anesthesia i just dont know what i'll do so i just shut my eys so i cant see whats happening, i felt the anesthesia is being injected on my gums its was the painful part for me because everything that happened after that is painless i just felt pressures when removing my wisdom tooth.. when the dentist gave me a cup of water to gargle is was a big relief. after long sleepless night because of tooth ache now my aching tooth is remove.. :)

Its so painful though. But you really need your tooth extracted. Just think about it. You want to get rid of that one time pain or carry this your pain with you. Dont worry there is an anesthesia.
