I was not able to vote, so frustrating

Philippines
May 10, 2010 4:24am CST
I was in the voting precinct at 9:00 o'clock in the morning and there was a very long line of voters waiting to cast their votes. I had to fall in line under the very sunny and hot weather for the line was beyond the school building where we were supposed to cast our vote. I stayed there for almost three hours and still the line was so long. I couldn't bear the heat and hunger anymore that I decided to go home for a while. At 2:30 in the afternoon, I went back hoping that the line was much shorter. To my dismay, the line was still long. There are only three PCOS machines in our area where there are more than 2000 voters. The clustering of voters made the casting of votes more complicated. .. . . Were you able to vote?

My dad, cousin and I waited for 5 hours. only senior citizens had the privilege of not waiting that long. I don't blame automation or the PCOS machines. It's the lack of a standardized process that made the experience so difficult.

I was, thank God. But I had to go through the same way you did so I know it's not easy. I was also on the verge of leaving because I couldn't bear the discomforts any longer but I kept telling myself that I should not quit without a fight. Somehow it pays because some of the candidates I voted for are now leading in the partial counting. Sad to say, some of the candidates I voted for also didn't make it. But that's just how election goes, right?

Wow that's rediculous how you had to wait that long. As if we don't spend enough time waiting our whole life in line ups! Take care

I know it is really frustrating just like what my brother feels yesterday.Actually I was also thinking I was not able to vote but good thing I am too early where the precint is assigned for me.Was waiting there for almost 4 hours then the voting just took less than 10 minutes! This is my first time and as long I can vote for Duterte,it's fine to wait. The weather in Davao is rainy and muddy.A bit tiring.

too bad. I knew how frustrating it could be because I saw the long lines of many precincts. As for me, I was lucky enough because I have not suffered any long lines.

This is nothing new for us voters. Every election day is the same, even go through a new technology in voting. I think now is the time to make strategy even after election so we could not repeat this a slow process. I feel bad for those who cant cast their vote and most of them are senior citizen, the disabled and the pregnant.

Yes, I was able to vote. I was also on the verge of leaving because of the long lines and the infernal heat. We have just one PCOS machine, so understandably the lines are really long. But we were organized and waited patiently. One precint was dedicated to my village so almost everyone knew each other. I guess the success of the elections in my area was because we all wanted to vote and we thought of a way or solution to make the elections more orderly rather than gripe and grumble. We suggested to the BEI's validating our names to place a number and this made the line orderly. We cannot put all the blame or responsibility on the poll watchers or the BEIs. This is an example and true enough, our line was faster and orderly and the voters in the other precint was wondering why our line was faster and the crowd was able to thin out faster when in fact at nine in the morning we were bigger in terms of volume than them.

sad to know that there are some people like you who were not able to vote today. actually, i have almost the same experience. me and my wife and a lot of other people were already in the place at nine. of course there were some who came in earlier ahead of us who were finished voting at that time. but we, after a long line under the heat of the sun, after a lot of complains of the people with the BEI, were able to vote after 7 hours. the only thing we have, i guess that you missed is patience. imagine, it's only ONE VOTE so we really have to bear with the consequences of this new system. this is our rights that we can only exercise every 3 years.

I was in the voting place at 7:00AM got inn in precinct with full of sweat at 10:30 and cast my vote at 11:30. Its very easy in casting vote but very hard to get in the precinct because they don't have a systematic method of receiving voters. They already know that 6 precincts fused into 1 cluster and they didn't prepared a plan how to manage that big number of voters in a small classroom so as an aisle. Still frustrating, this 2010 election is my hardest eversince.

yes, i was able to cast my vote. there was also a line but not very long and it was moving along. i spent about an hour and a half at the precinct (waiting in line and casting my vote). i guess i was lucky because in the other clusters at the same precinct, the lines were quite long and slow moving.

Yes I was able to vote. I have read news articles that have the same issue as you. In fact Noynoy is one of the victims of these failed machines. He waited 4 hours before he was able to cast his vote. As for my experience it went fine. I was early in the precinct so I'm one of the first voters in our place.

Yes, I was able to vote this morning. Although it was quite tiring waiting for my turn to vote but it was such a fulfillment to able to participate in the first automated voting election and exercise my right to vote as a Filipino citizen. I just hope and pray that the next President will bring change to our poor country.Happy mylotting! ;D
