Life is Beautiful - It's 1939 i Italy adn Guido Orefice (Robert Benigni) is a happy-go-lucky guy who's traveling with his brother Arriving in Arezzo, Guido meets Dora (Nicoletta Braschi), a young and pretty school teacher. Immediately smitten, Guido gets a job as a waiter and arranges to have more encounters with Dora. But it turns out that she's already engaged, albeit unhappily, to a Fascist official. But his charm wins her over and they ride together for a life of happiness. The reality of war strikes several years later when Guido, who's Jewish, and their young son, Giosue (Giorgio Catarini), are sent to a concentration camp. Fearing for her husband and son, Dora, whos is not a Jew, demands that she be allowed to go with them. Hoping to shield Giosue from the horrors of their predicament, Guido tells his son that they and everyone else in the camp are competing to win a contest where the grand prize is one of Giosue's favorite things - a real tank.
I have watched movies with bad endings that would really get your heart and mind disappointed and good endings that would really relieve viewers, especially those that have difficult ordeals or conflicts that the character(s) faced and later become victorious. Honestly, I find happy endings better and would even think of happy endings for those that end sadly. A movie that really got me before was, "Life is Beautiful" (La Vita e Bella)..

Generally I would say I prefer a happy ending, but then most movies do end up on a somewhat upwardly positive note so you have to like them. But then I do like a movie which doesn't just deliver the overly obvious and often unoriginal ending. I like movies to be brave enough and have faith in the storyline not to succumb to what the majority of people expect. A prime example of which is Will Smith's "Seven Pounds", it delivers a brilliant unexpected ending and not a completely happy one at that and it makes you sit up and pay attention which more movies should try to do, or at least in my humble opinion.
