Well, I finally spent some money on myself!

I didn't get myself a birthday gift, a Valentine's Day gift or a gift for any other occasion. Living by myself and far from family I rarely receive anything as a gift. I scrimp and save and deny myself, trying to build up a little money for the time I'm too old to do anything to earn money.
So yesterday I was thinking how nice it would be to have a mother's ring. My ex husband had bought me a ring with two sapphires in it representing my two sons' birthdays. When he filed for divorce after 19 years it was one of the things I had to sell to pay attorney fees. So I looked on eBay and although I did not find one that I could afford with two sapphires, I did see a lovely sterling silver ring with three sapphires and waited till the last couple of minutes. I was the high bidder at $12 and it should arrive within a few days.
It feels good to have given myself a little gift and it's been years since I've done so.
Do you ever buy yourself something you don't need but just want?

Yeah I do once in a while. I bought some wind chimes at my work for myself for Mothers day. And the week before I bought myself some new tennis shoes, the sole is coming apart on one of them but I'm saving the old pair with the weather when it rains our drive turns to mud and I don't want to trash my new shoes. Though I've been pondering returning the chimes.... as I really can't afford much right now and shouldn't of bought them maybe I'll return 1 or both? *sigh*

BTW... YAY for an inexpensive find that's similar to the ring you had to sell. I would like to get a mothers ring one day too! I have my Grandmother's mother's ring and I think it's a great momento of her as I remember her wearing it when I was a kid.

That always happens to me, regretting that I spent the money! It seems something always happens that I need it for something important but darn it, that's what I've been putting money in the savings account for!
I hope you won't return the chimes or the shoes. I love wind chimes! My children gave me some a few years ago that are beautiful and a friend gave me one, too--it has 5 dragons on it because my name at that forum is dragon5. I have to hang them both outside this year.

That's great! You should do that sometimes, to reward yourself. Buying something for yourself is one way to relieve stress. Just make sure that you shop using cash and not credit card. It doesn't need to be expensive. What's important is that it makes you feel good about yourself.

I need to do some more of this, maybe 3-4 times a year. It does feel good to buy something just for me! I don't want much and my tastes are not expensive.

Yes I do. I am retired and live alone. Thank means I have to take care of myself, do all the chores, fix broken things around the house, etc., so I really think I deserve a treat every now and then.

I love getting a good deal. It soothes the Scottish part of my soul
I have gotten some great deals on E-bay, who care if the stones are not perfect I bet they look beautiful and as long as they make you happy that's what counts.

I'm pretty much retired since there are no jobs here. I do everything you do, too. This week I've been helping my 89 year old dad who just had a knee replacement and catching up with stuff around the house so I figured I deserved something. I console myself with the fact that other people would have spent a lot more on a sapphire ring, I love getting bargains! Granted, the stones probably are flawed at that price but they certainly looked beautiful and that's all I care about, not the resale value.
We deserve some rewards once in awhile!

Congratulations you! Sometimes spending money on yourself can be incredible difficult. I can´t even remember the time I splashed out on something non essential, though I treat the rest of the family quite often. Just little things, but it shows I´m thinking of them.
I´m sure you deserved your gift to yourself, and if it reminds you of your family then it´s doubly special. Enjoy wearing it :-)

It's good to see you, Moo!! I think we should be nicer to ourselves once in awhile. As mothers, we all to often deprive ourselves and we don't mind because we love our families and especially our children. But we do need to reward ourselves sometimes. I was just thinking of you yesterday and wondering how you were getting along and if you ever got your house the way you wanted it!

One of the biggest thing that I've bought that I didn't really need was a new kitchen range. The range that came with the house worked perfectly well. The fact that it was 30 years old and I had used it for 25 of those years shouldn't matter. It still worked, but I wanted a new one. The old stove was coppertone, and it made the kitchen even more dark. The old hood was coppertone, also, so I got a new deluxe white hood to go with the new white stove.
I also have a box full of earrings that I've bought one pair at a time. I didn't NEED any of them, but I wanted them. I do wear them, some more than others.

Yes. I sometimes buy things as gifts for myself. It is usually a reward for myself. For example, when I was too stressed out at work or when I did a good job on something or when I was able to help someone. It is good to reward ourselves once in a while and enjoy the money that we earn and work hard for. I don't buy gifts for myself more than once a month.

I don't think I could do it every month, although I should. It's good for us to have a treat once in awhile!

Yep, I bought a pair of earrings a few months ago. I didn't really need them, I just wanted a new pair of small hoop earrings after I had lost one from the only pair of earrings that I had. I wound up going to Wal-Mart to get them. I spent a whoppin' $15 for them, I think. LOL
Happy mylotting!

yes just last week. I got tired of waiting to see Avatar. I knew I was going to not only love this movie but want to keep it. Netflix kept saying i had to wait?
i guess they dont get their movies right away like Blockbuster when they first come on DVD. so, i bought it. then, later in the week my youngest son needed money for an altinator to run the car for work. after i sqeezed the money out, i told my son here, my oldest, maybe i shouldnt have bought that movie and just waited. as now i have to worry until i get my next pay. my son here said mom its not fair for you to say that. i'll get us through. you deserve to have something you want sometimes.

Having a child like that is a real blessing that brings you joy 24/7/365!
I've done things like that, which is why I hesitated to get my little gift. But I'm no spendthrift, I'm frugal and I deserve a treat sometimes--just as you do!

I keep telling myself that. I don't want to live with my kids, even though I will be welcomed. But I also won't enjoy life if I don't loosen up the purse strings a little bit!

I think it's nice to buy yourself a gift sometimes.Once in a while when I come into some money,I treat myself to something that I always wanted. No one ever buys me a gift,so I buy for myself. The next thing I want to buy myself is a bedroom set.I never have new furniture.I'm tired of my old junk,so I decided I'm gonna improve my home to look nicer and match my furniture.I did my livingroom,so next time I become rich I'll do my bedroom and bathroom.I want to feel comfortable in my home.

I'll bet your living room is lovely! I've been wanting a new bedroom set, too, but I may just move in a few years and carting it with me across the country isn't too attractive. I like to have things so that I can put everything I truly care about in my car and leave with no regrets. But a new bedroom set would be very nice. I have junk, too, and badly need a new mattress!

I actually get more pleasure from doing things for my sons than I do for myself. I guess that is my usual indulgence! I think it's great you're helping your son--when you are old and unable to do much for yourself, he will be there for you. You are so blessed to have grandchildren! I don't have any yet but when I do I plan to move closer to them.
