Ya guy can say that again! AVG is too heavy, have a lot of risks. It creates files called dump, which are 200 mb or bigger. One day, I turned on my computer and realized that I had lost about 17gb in my C: although I hadn't install any games, software in that C:. All of my files are in D:, 10 minutes later, I discovered that dump files. Course you AVG And I must say I agreed with vaishakhv4u. Avast is the best free antivirus. And the runner up is Avira.

It would be very difficult to compare the free anti-virus programs because very few of us are likely to try a great amount of them. The average person will download one and try it, and if it proves to be satisfactory they will continue using it and will not bother trying others. As long as the program works well then nothing else really matters. I use Avast and agree that it is a good anti-virus and very dependable.

hanuma34 the problems with kaspersky that i experienced are, it uses a lot of memory and can make system very slow especially the 2010 internet security. It detects and cure almost all threats. But i experienced many problems like bugs in update process.some times after formatting system and reinstalling the antivirus we need to update a good amount of files. And when it is about to finish it shows the message that update failed. And also another bug is that the update wont start. After some googling i found the solution.I had to manually change the update source to a new one. There are few more problems like that. But i have never experienced any such thing while using Avira or Avast.Try them and please post ur feelings.

dude...i have tried almost all free versions as well as paid versions of kaspersky and norton.Anyway for some days these programs will prevent those viruses but soon the system crashes. No antivirus is 100% effective against viruses. And always the ultimate solution will be formatting the drive. Now i am using avast for the past 4 months and no problems till now.Regular updates are very important. cheers....

I am using Kaspersky Internet Security 2010. I have also recommended to my friends. Of late for some reason my laptop hangs. Cannot say it is due to the AV. I shall keep my eyes open to conclue. I shall now try for the AVAST free edition and see if it is good enough as is being claimed by you and others. I went through NAV also prior to using Kaspersky IS 2009 and K IS 2010. While I did not get the virus problems the problems of hanging are noticeable - may be due to other factors. Thanks anyway.

Hi vaishakhv4u, The Antivirus which i like most is Eset Smart Security. It proactively detects known and unknown viruses, worm, trojans and rootkits. I bought it's license key for 20$ for 2 years. It is a superb virus guard. It prevents from hacker attacks. It makes my internet browser much more faster. It scans pretty faster than other virus guards such as Kaspersky,Avg,Avast,Norton,Mcafee and etc. Eset Smart Security is a deeply integrated solution designed to protect computers from a vast range of malicious threats. SO i enjoy have Eset Smart Security as my virus guard.

hii thealexsan2010...I also used nod32 for some time..But i was not impressed ..any way it was a free version..it rarely showed any threats after system scan but i experienced many problems. So i installed kaspersky paid version and after one scan it detected about 11 threats and cleaned them. But the bugs in kaspersky didn't allowed me to use it for long time.So i switched to avira and then to avast 4.8.Now for a long time no problems..Thanks for the response. cheers

I also use Avira Free Edition as my antivirus..It doesn't use up much RAM that would slow system performance like that in Kaspersky..It's a good antivirus able to detect viruses which could not be detected by other free antivirus or even some paid ones..It also has heuristic techniques which enables it to detect potential virus or hazards to you system even if the virus signature in not present in its database..I have tried Malwarebytes, AVG Free and Paid edition, Kaspersky, McAfee but I say Avira is really the best among them all.. Aside from having Avira in my PC and laptop, I also have Smart Virus Remover as a supplementary antivirus program..It specializes in deleting autorun viruses in flash drives as well as other small viruses..

i think its Avira cause it can scan new viruses when its updated unlike AVG i had my computer reformatted because its infected by worms and AVG can't even scan it so i prefer using Avira.. it don't take too much memory but its still fast in scanning those viruses..
