Some two years ago, I helped a fellow MyLotter rehome a cat she had named Sassy..she couldn't take the cat as she was going to move. I posted a discussion about it asking for fellow MyLotters if someone out there could help out. Then another fellow MyLotter took interest and decided to take the cat. It took about a full month to pull off, but we did it...Me here in the NYC area making contacts and connections, helping my friend in Georgia who owned Sassy, and the other MyLotter who wanted Sassy who lived in North Carolina--MIRACLES DO HAPPEN VIA THE INTERNET!! Well now I'm trying to help out a Facebook friend. She's embarking on a completely different life, as she is entering a Benedictine Monastery. She herself has done rescue work, fostered and rehomed pets, and has had luck in rehoming her dogs, but still can't find people to take her two cats, Olive and Matlin which are both bobtail cats. I've been trying to help her and have done extensive cross-posting over at Facebook amongst my fellow FB friends and pet rescue groups, but so far no luck and time is running out as my friend needs to rehome her cats by May 29th. She lives in the Lexington, KY area of USA, but is willing to provide transport to just about anywhere else in the US, but naturally we're both hoping someone in her state or surrounding states can take in one or both of her cats. The shelter idea is a no go, as many southern states, including KY are HIGH KILL shelter states and many use the gas chamber method of euthanizing pets. I even mentioned the Trixie Foundation, which is a forever home sanctuary for pets and is in her state, but when she called them, she found out that they want $1,500 PER cat and $50 per month per cat for the remainder of their lives, so that is definitely OUT. Here are the particulars of both cats: Olive is 3 1/2 yrs old, spayed, was vetted when first taken in but not updated on shots. Solid black bobtail. Sweet, but some shy. She likes to be petted and greets you and sleeps with you. She is not a lap cat but likes to let you know she appreciates you. Was raised around dogs. Has seafoam green eyes although they look gold Matlin is 2 1/2 yrs old, recently spayed, also was vetted when first taken in and is now updated on shots. Tortie bobtail. In-your-face loving kitty. Oral - will give love nips and nurse your earlobe if you let her. Perpetual kitten into everything. Loves dogs To my way of thinking it'd be great if both cats could be taken together, but that's not the point..they need new homes ASAP!! Showing a picture of Olive...then will provide pic of Matlin later If anyone can help PLEASE PM or (if you have my private email) email me--really want to help my friend here...been trying for about more than two weeks already and time is running out--I'll give you my friend's contact info if you can help

I wish I could help, but we're full - over full actually I'm surprised that she can't take the cats with her, some monasteries let ya - I know I wouldn't go to one that didn't... not that I'd want to go in one...

I think this is the kind of monastery where one has to give up all "worldly" possessions, including pets

well, I wouldn't be going there, and I wonder ... well, selfish of me I guess, never mind... people give up animals for various reasons, the tortie looks a lot like our Gabby, sans a tail, of course...

I wish we could take them, but already have 2 cats and a dog. There are two places in Clarksville, TN that will take in cats and adopt them out. They do not charge, except for adoptions. One is Cats R Us and the other is Precious Friends. She could try those if nothing else works, they both are no-kill. They both have websites.

Thanks, I'll look up those two places you mention, might be a good alternative if no one comes through

That was my thought. And Clarksville is nearly right at the KY state line, so drive wouldn't be too bad. But I hope she finds a home for them first.

I hope that your fiend finds peace and serenity in the Benedictine Monastery. She seems a very sensitive person and I do hope that she finds her vocation there. At one point I was sincerely thinking about going into priesthood and joined the Franciscan Fathers. Well I discovered that celibate life is not for me. I am an animal lover. I love animals especially dogs a lot. Olive seems a wonderful cat. I wish I could help. I am not particularly found of cats since I am more a dog lover. If I had continued in the celibate life, I would have adopted a dog for sure. I would secretly sneak him in my room. I love dogs and I cannot live without them. I would love to be surrounded by them even at deathbed. Can your friend takes these two cats with her? I can assume that her monastery has a garden or a place where these two cats can be kept. Has she asked if she can keep them?

I’ve seen the photos and both cats are beautiful! Olive looks so much like my beloved Friday! I wish I lived in the States and had half a chance of helping out but come to think of it my husband would not be keen on more pets anyway, so I’d have to choose, Uhmmm...Husband or cats? Uhmmm…...Anyway I wish you all the luck and I will send a couple of prayers that you can pull this off again, good on you Pye!

Good Luck! I hope you can get them both homes before time runs out. I wish I could help out, but at this time I just can't give a home to any pets.
