to put the DOG out when you get home???
Dern it, the other roommate got home, and didn't put the dog out and he woke me up at 12:15 whimpering to go out.
It is NOW 5:30, and despite trying, I've not been able to get back to sleep!
And then her dog started barking!
Why can't she just come in and throw the pair of them out for a bit???
I have to be up by 7:30 - is it even WORTH trying to go to sleep again?
!!!!

I hate when you can't go back to sleep. Usually, I have to go to the bathroom, and then sometimes I can't get back to sleep. It always seems to be when I have to get up in a few hours. It is usually because I start thinking of things I have to do the next day or something like that. That is aggrivating enough. Being kept awake because of something someone else did or didn't do would make you crazy. @writersedge (22563)

I can't function when I've had that little sleep. I'd have to call-in sick.

I don't get paid if I don't work either. But I'm learning to find jobs that have flexible hours or start later in the day so I can catch up on sleep if I have to.

Even if we're only gone for 10 minutes, our dogs are taken out whenever we get home. It's a habit, for which they are 'rewarded' with an oatmeal square (mini-wheat-type cereal). I don't know what kind of relationship you have with your roommate, but maybe this situation could have been avoided if you had taken the dog(s) out for a bit before going to bed? That way you wouldn't have been interrupted. It's also not healthy to force a dog (or any animal) to go so long without a bathroom break.
It sounds like communication is needed with the roommate. Set up parameters. Sitting for pets is not unlike sitting for children, in that there are basic needs that need to be met. Compensation can also be part of the picture, unless pet care assistance is reciprocal.

well, see, we actually bring Cujo and Zoe in because Cujo howls if there are sirens and Zoe barks at every little thing
So, we bring them in and put Precious out - because Stupid, I mean Precious, attacks Zoe and then Zoe hurts her - well, I did say she was stupid...
What it has been, however, is that after a couple of hours, Cujo has to go out again, and starts wandering and whimpering, he's not loud, but I don't sleep well at the best of times.
So, if she had come home and put Precious and Cujo out, instead of stopping at the computer, the dogs; Cujo whimpering and Precious yipping because she knows mom is home; wouldn't have awaken me.

Yeah, there are a lot of little things that annoy us. I sometimes get irritated cause I always have to walk both dogs. Do you think that when we are in a hurry the husband could help by walking one? Nope. Hang in there.

Mayhap a sweetly poisonous note is in order for the neglectful one? Not overtly hostile, but gently twisting the butter knife...

Lock the bathroom and refuse to let her use it so she knows how it feels to be miserable.
I can't stand people who don't take care of their animals! Really, you have to put your foot down and insist that she take care of the poor thing. What a good dog that is, not to make a mess in the house. Would that your roomate was that considerate!

well, the blind roommate was the one not shutting the door, but she does it now - didn't get until 6 a.m., lucky pup...
I am going to have to say something so that she puts the dogs out when she gets home - I don't care if her dog jumps at the back door all night, so long as she isn't barking in the bedroom because she want's "mom." (have I mentioned her dog is beyond stupid?)
Yeah, Cujo is the best of the the three, and doesn't want to mess in the house, if ONLY someone will let him OUT -hopefully without waking me UP!

Sounds to me as if u need to have a long talk w/the roomie. If everyone takes care of their responsibilities it makes it easier on everyone. Her dog is not your responsibility. I think she is taking advantage of your niceness.

Well, she is gone 9 to 11 hours for work and we don't mind running her dog out, but when she comes home, she needs to do it again, because her dog gets all bent out of shape if she doesn't see her. And then Cujo, poor guy, has to go out and he's not good at holding it - and doesn't have the house training to know not to come right in and drink a gallon of water - there's water outside, don't know why he does that...

Hey Elic! I don't know what I would do if I had that kind of
problem with my roommate! I have enough problems with mine as
it is! He does empty the litter box, but only because he is
obsessive compulsive and wants it clean! And who would argue
with someone wanting to clean a litter box? Not me! But, he
basically doesn't even like the cats being here and that doesn't
work for me! They were here first, come first in my life and
he can get out if it ever came down to that and he knows it!
They are my "babies" and no one comes before Star & Luna!

If taking a day off work is out of the question you will have to hang in there and have a little chat with your room mate so that she knows she has to take care of the dog and not forget to let him out, way too inconsiderate if it happens again! I used to be kept awake by the people across the road from us and their dogs barking all night, it is darn annoying!

yeah, well, she came in, lost all my stuff on the computer (fortunately every thing that might be actually lost had been saved) but didn't go all the way in and put the dogs out
she can lose all of the stuff on the screen if she'd just put the dogs out!

Ok I'm not always nice. My response would be to inform her she needs to start taking her dog out when she gets home from work, get rid of her dog or she can find that the dog will start being placed in her bedroom and shut in there until she gets home.
As I said, I'm not always nice.

It's a lot easier for me to get my dog to go outside than it is for me to get her to come back in, lol
! She will go outside pretty easy the minute I get home from wherever I've been. She will go wild once she's outside and I have a hard time getting her to come back in when I want her to.
