The Chocolate Milk Diet - what do you think?

I post here as I don't find an active weight loss or health category...but since it is an every day issue...I thought this might be the best place to put this and get some good comments Read this article about how chocolate milk helps a person loose belly weight http://health.yahoo.com/experts/eatthis/54828/the-chocolate-milk-diet All four reasons seem to me to be right on target. Makes sense, sounds right and is still in line with a healthy diet and is for any age. How can it be wrong? Granted to much of anything can be a problem, but 3, 8oz servings a day? Chocolate has been said good for the heart etc as long as it is dark chocolate, and it doesn't specify a "kind" of chocolate milk...ready made, powder mixed in, syrup mixed in, but it does say no whole milk. I am thinking for myself as well as my 2 grand daugthers. No one else in the family needs help in this area!!! So...post your comments, thoughts and let's see what we have here!

I have two thoughts on this. First without sugar, chocolate tastes pretty nasty, and I would be very concerned if they tried to sneak in any artificial sweeteners, which I believe to be highly unhealthy, and in fact "worse" than sugar. The second thing is that in my opinion (and some others agree) the healthiest kind of milk is regular milk because when they strip the fat out, that messes with the nutrition. We need fat to survive and when it is taken away from us in one food, we have to get it somewhere else. I considered some of society's current low-fat theories to be dangerously wrong. I am not a fan of ANY diet schemes, favoring sensible eating as part of an overall healthy life instead of Yo-Yo-ing.

I totally agree with you drannhh..so many diets, yet so many over weight people! What's wrong with this picture! In this case tho... maybe they shouldn't have called it a "diet". It is just a little "thing" you can do while you do the other healthy things to help everything move along and has been known to help loose weight. It only says to drink the chocolate milk before/after exercise and one other time later in the day. Doesn't say to not do this or that, or don't eat this or that like most diets do. I'd even have to say maybe it is more a energy booster than a diet. Chocolate, sugar..boosts energy before so you can exercise longer...and after cause the chocolate will calm you and while your energy is up, it can get rid of the calories in the chocolate/sugar etc. And another time later..just for the energy. Then again, we are only talking about a little bit of chocolate and milk...regardless of what each have in them...good or bad...I wouldn't say it is enough of anything to make much a difference. I think the key is to do it WITH exercise, not while watching tv on the sofa! "Anything in modertaion" is what I live by... at least food related!

I adore chocolate milk too! Know whats even better? Strawberry Quik! My problem is that I can't limit myself to 8oz at a time. I tend to make a big glass, like 20 oz. What do you think about leaving the chocolate out? If I drink plain skim milk, will I lose more weight?

I think the theory is based on the chocolate being what gives the "goods" for the loosing weight. Vitamin D from the milk, the rest from the chocolate. I just don't know what kind of chocolate he is talking about...carton in the daily section, powder or syrup chocolate to the milk...

I called my mom a few minutes ago and said "More Ovaltine please!" She hung up on me because I could explain the reference to her. I called her back, and she claimed to not recognize the voice on the other end, and assumed it was a prank call. Now I feel bad for bothering her with my lame joke, instead of making a phone call like a sane human being. I think this could indeed work. I don't like to call every little meal routine a stand alone diet though. You have some people who will try to substitute every thing with chocolate milk, trying to speed up the weight loss process. These are the same people who don't do much exercise, and think there is some secret shortcut they can take to improve their physical health.

That was cute! I am sure she at least grinned when you explained! On fatening things, I eat most whatever I want... but within reason. I love pizza...but...one/two slices is all I eat at one time and then the rest I freeze and next week have 2 more pieces. Things like that. I love chocolate milk, but figured it wasn't that good for me weight wise and the best ever is the pre-packaged like Knudson in the dairy shelf. But more than I care to spend for a 1/2 gallon! So I don't buy it. But now... I think I will. I was not sure which kind of chocolate...pre-cartoned, or hersey Syrup or NEstle powder. He didn't say which was best for this so I will have to reserach that. I walk every morning, so I can do 2 of hte three then and a nice treat in the afternoon. I never have candy so that will be my sweet treat!

This is very interesting. But I'm not sure if it's true because I drink chocolate milk every day. I've lost weight, but I think that's mainly because I exercise every day. But who knows, maybe chocolate milk did help me lose weight along with daily exercise. Maybe I've been giving my exercises too much credit.

You could be! I would say try the exercise without the chocolate milk and see what happens, but if the milk was helping, you won't loose anymore more weight or gain and I wouldn't want that! I'd say just tell yourself that it has helped and that can give you incentive to keep on truckin'....if you are post 1970's... that means keep on doing it and enjoy the results...and your chocolate milk!

Hi Coffeebreak Hmmmmmm interesting article I do like chocolate milk but I only like a little bit of chocolate in it but to be honest I don't drink chocolate milk its rare for me to do so however I noticed the key times he said to drink it one in the morning and one after you exercise I forgot when to have the other glass but anyway it beats having a candy bar. I'm sure I can drink chocolate milk more often (I also like dark chocolate its a bit more bitter but it still tastes pretty good to me and better than milk chocolate (not in taste but in health) also as you said to much of a good think isn't good either. I really like his books Eat This Not That although I don't know his name he as been on a lot of TV shows and I recognize his face. Really surprising to me that some of the things I was eating that I thought was good for me and low in calories actually wasn't bagels for example especially white ones. I usually stay away from white flour products and only eat whole wheat bread but I gave up bagels since seeing him on TV and have also no longer eat white rice, but I can't give up potatoes I like them to much and although I will give up some things I don't feel you should give up all your favorite foods for the sake of dieting just prepare them in a different way

I figure... I never eat alot of the things I like, simply cause I am on limited income and know where my money has to go. I also know that at my age, loosing weight is terribly hard and also know that for most things..."anything in moderation" is a good way to go. I haven't had candy in so long! I took my grand daughter to Sweet Factory and let her buy 1/4 lb of her choice (that stuff is OUTRAGEOUSLY EXPENSIVE. I dont know how it stays in business!) and I bought 2 blue berry licorice sticks and 2 watermelon. The watermelon wasn't that great and the blue berry was okay. Do I want to go back for more? No... that'll be all I "want" for awhile. I'm just not that into candy. Soda is the same way. And yes, I to love potatoes and also corn tortillas. So I just make sure I have just a regular (not small, but not large - enough to satisfy a snack hungar) and that curbs my cravings for most things about twice a week. Loosing weight is really hard if you deny yourself everything you like! But I walk in the mornings and one before and one after...that'll be realy nice! I don't like walking and don't like having to do it alone and don't like having to come home and shower and clean up in near the middle of the day! But I do it, so in my case.. this might be a really good boost for me!
