Absurb things that terrified us when we were younger.

When we are children, we tend to believe a lot of things. A lot of things that in turn terrify us witless. When we look back on it, it is silly and quite absurd, but it didn't seem so absurd when we were children. I think the biggest thing is that there was a wall in my room that had the boards arranged in such a where were you could see a creepy looking face. Obviously that was just how they fell but I absolutely refused to sleep on that side of the room for years. Years later I got over it and I laughed about it. So what were some things that you were terrified when you were a child but now as you look back they seem absurd. Looking forward to reading your responses.

I had lots of things that scared me, in my school we had this little shed at the top of the playground, thinking back it was just like a normal garden shed, but we all used to look though the keyhole as we were convinced there was a witch inside there, and if she didnt like us there was a rumour that she would blow into our eyes and turn us blind, so you would get dared to look through it, but then you would be afraid to go to sleep that night incase you couldnt see anything in the morning. I also saw a bit about aliens on tv, I wasnt meant to be watching it but just came down to get a drink and saw a few minutes, I dont know whether it was a film or a show but they had this man strapped down and was spraying something in his eyes, then put this huge needle into his eye, from that moment on I was convinced that the aliens would come and get me in the night, I actually used to sleep with a knife from our kitchen drawer under my pillow, and then in the morning had to hide it so that my mother wouldnt find it. I used to wake up with little cuts on my hands from where my hands had gone under the pillow while I was sleeping. I also at one point though that there was a ghost in the attic, and that it was coming through the ceiling and into my bedroom. So yeah guess you could say that I was scared of some things when I was younger lol! Ive only just recently told my parents about keeping a knife in my room, thankfully they thought it was funny and not strange that their daughter used to sleep with a knife under her pillow lol!

Thank you for sharing. On the aliens thing, I could believe it. I was terrified by countless things that I have seen on television over the years. Mostly due to watching Unsolved Mysteries a lot back of the day. That show had something on it that put some paranoid idea into my mind at least half of the time but I never stopped watching it. Of course, I blame a lot of it on Robert Stack's delivery. The guy was creepy but he really did set the mood. Sleeping with a knife under the pillow, well that might be a bit absurd. More than anything to do with the fact that a knife may not do any good against aliens. Still thank you for your response, it is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

Yeah its only now Im older that I realise how silly it was to take a knife to bed, but thats how scared I was, I couldnt sleep as I was constantly looking out of the window. It was seeing the needle go into that guys eye that terrified me. And the knife wouldnt have done much damage anyway especially to aliens, Im just thankfull my mother never found it, can you imagine how worried she would be to find her daughter sleeping with a knife under the pillow, and then the explanation would be, incase aliens come for me, Im sure she would have been even more worried then lol! Thankfully we all find it funny now!

I had a Wendy House in my bedroom and at night, I was convinced there was some kind of monster in there. I was also scared of the wicked witch in The Wizard of Oz, the Child Catcher in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and the Cybermen in Doctor Who!

The witch, oh the witch from the Wizard of Oz. That one terrified me for about a year straight but I got over it. Mostly that laugh, that could cause the hairs to stand up on the back of the neck There were other things to fear. Thank you for your response, it is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

I was born in 1990, so maybe some of you have not heard of Peter Rabbit. But in this movie there was a farmer called Mr. McGregor who chased down the rabbits and tried to kill them. He was the scariest villain I knew. Laying in my bed I was terrified and had nightmares about him on a nightly basis. As I fell asleep I thought I heard his footsteps trudging around. Now I realize that those noises of footsteps was actually my own heartbeat. As I got more fearful and nervous, McGregor only ran faster (my heart beating more rapidly). I don't know how I got over it but for years I forced my parents to sit in the hallway outside my room until I fell asleep.

Actually, I remember that movie. I might have it somewhere. I didn't terrify me but I can see where it would. Of course its been years since I watched it but I still have the tape lying around somewhere. Thank you for your response, it is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

When I was in kindergarten, I had to pass by this sidewalk that was a few inches taller than normal. Back then I would have to be assisted, or I had to sit on the sidewalk and help myself up/down just to get through. I always felt that if I didn't, I would land on the pavement and get myself killed. Now I pass by that same place, I laugh and remember those moments. Now I can just jump right through without hurting myself. Also, there was this hype on trolls back in the day (which is what, ten years ago?). They said if you put one near your window before you go to sleep, they will come alive and something bad happens. It always scared me, and I remember my siblings using that to have fun. Of course dolls are dolls, but they still scare me sometimes.

To be honest, if I remember those troll dolls, some of them looked rather creepy. Then there are a lot of dolls that look a bit creepy to be honest with you. Even more so to children. You just wonder what the toy developers were thinking sometimes. Thank you for your response, it is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

Clowns. I was sh!t scared of clowns as a child. I don't know where the phobia came from but every time I saw a clown I'd scream bloddy murder. I couldn't even watch "Bozo". Actually, I'm still afraid of clowns...

Yes, clowns, just clowns. I am sure many children were traumatized by clowns in their day. In fact, many adults fear clowns. There is just something insidious about something that happy. At least that is the way I see things. Thank you for your response, it is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

i think the one thing that terrified me when i was younger was the shadows of the trees, especially after noon where the shadows look like terrifying monsters on streets.. it's really funny to recall that.

I can't think of anything at the moment but i remembered that my cousin was frightened by Goofy before. 2 years ago, when she was only 5 years old, we visited Disney Land in Hong Kong and we stayed in the Disney Hotel. During one of the evenings, Goofy was walking around shaking hands with little kids. My cousin was initially excited, but when he turned to her, she immediately cried and ran off. In years to come, I'm sure that she will think that it's absurd to be scared of Goofy.

Wow, that's quite an interesting one. I have no idea if I was scared of any cartoon characters when I was young. Then again, I have known kids who were scared of Mickey Mouse and he's like the most child friendly character out there. Goofy would be right up on that list. I guess certain characters just terrify for odd reasons. I am sure that this will be looked at and laughed in years to come. Thank you for your response, it is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

I do recall when I was a kid,I had a closet with a hole through it.I used to think there was someone in my closet peeking out at me through the hole in it.I was scared of the closet.I was also scared of this ugly hideous "Cher" doll that my aunt bought me.She had the creepiest look on her face,so I whipped it into the closet and leaned a chair up against the door,so "Cher" couldn't get out. It's so funny when I think of it now.LOL

That is an interesting tale. Thank you for sharing. I believe I have done something similar to the offending random creepy wall intersection one time, by putting a poster over it. The things we do to alleviate our fears when we are children. Thank you for your response, it is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

There are a lot of things that scared me when I was a kid. My older brother used to scare me with monsters inside the closet or under the bed. I always left the lights on whenever I'm about to sleep cuz I was too scared to turn them off. There also was that candle thing where you have to hold the candle at 12 midnight and say something in front of the mirror. If you did it right then you'll see something in the mirror. That's about all of it, I guess. If I remember anything else I'll go back here and post.

Monsters in the closet or under the bed always a classic one. Many children had that fear I believe. Many of them also had that fear amplified by the tales that older siblings told. Its absurd the more you think about it but as children, it seems very real. Thank you for your response, it is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

I used to sleep with the lights on too. I still do some nights when I'm home alone. I like to let everybody lurking outside know that someone is home and awake. Ready to attack any intruders!

WHAT U SAY IS AN ILLUSION.IN PAST,WHEN U WERE TOO YOUNG.UNKNOWN FACE OF ANY UNKNOWN PERSON,SAY ANY STRANGER ALSO DID CAUSE FEAR,WHEN WE WERE CHILD.SO THIS ILLUSION OF FACE TERRIFIED IN PAST,IN CHILDHOOD. BUT,EVEN TO DAY IF U SEE WITH A LITTLE CARE.ON OLD WALLS,OR, ANY SURFACE AFTER RAIN,SNOWFALL,UNFAMILIAR FIGURES ARE DEVLOPED:I HVAE SEEN MAY A TIMES.BUT,NOW WE ARE A LITTLE MATURED(NOT ABSOLUTELY),SO THE DOES NOT TERRIFY US. I DONT KNOW,THE PARCTISE IN YOUR COUNTRY,BUT,IN OUR COUNTRY i.e. in INDIA,THERE IS ONE IN CORRECT PRACTISE BY PARENTS TO FRIGHTEN SMALL KIDS,BY EVILLS,DEVILLS,POLICE,DOCTORS,SAADHU BAWAS,,,,,,,,,AND MANY ,,,,WHEN,KIDS DISOBEY THEM.THIS TYPE OF INCORRECT PRACTISE ALSO MAKE KIDS FEARFUL ABOUT ,UNKNOWN FACES. ONE,MORE REASON ,IS NOT ACCEPTALBLE TO ALL,BECAUSE,IT IS CONNECTED WITH PREVIOUS BIRTH & REBIRTH & A TIME PASSAGE BEETWEEN THEM.BUT,I HAVE DONE A SUCESSFUL PRACTISE UNDER GREAT GREAT SHRI SHRI RAVI SHANKERJI :ART OF LIVING:THE COURSE REGRESSION OF PAST LIFE.....WHOEVER HAS EVER DONE ONLY CAN UNDERSTAND......BUT .YET...WE MUST LIVE TILL OUR LAST BREATH WITHOUT FEAR,,,AS WE ALL ARE FINE,N,BEAUTIFUL KIDS OF ALMIGHTY ......THE GOD.
