I Had A Brilliant Discussion Topic In My Head...Now It's Gone!

Has this ever happened to you? Before you get out of bed you have this brilliant (or so you think at the time) discussion topic in your head but as soon as you get the chance to sit in front of your computer and log into MyLot, suddenly, inexplicably, that "brilliant" topic of discussion becomes a faded memory! How frustrating! I must be getting old..I can't retain information, even my own!

Yes there seems to be a part of our brains, that stores brilliant ideas, when you are either half asleep or out and about and not in shouting distance of a computor or pen and pencil. but your brilliant bit of brain goes into lockdown as soon as you are in a position to type or write the ideas down. I have lost count how many times I have typed the most amazing replies in discussions and the laptop shuts itself down. I must be so brilliant that the laptop can't cope with my amazing brain power!!!( sorry only joking, )no the memory does fade and isn't it just frustrating.

Haha! I do know what you mean my friend. So frustrating isn't it? I'm quite sure that as soon as I log off and go to bed I'll have loads of ideas swimming in my brain, only to drown once I wake up!

How hard can it be to remember something that, only a couple of hours previously, was swimming about in my brain quite happily, ready to be extracted? How actors learn their lines is beyond me! Haha!

Yes, it has on many occasions! . It's just my grey matter getting greyer! Actually there are so many disccusions that I participate with, that I rarely have enough time left to start one of my own. But I do occasionally. _Derek

Maybe you should run on autosave. lol. It helps if you write it down as soon as you still have it in your mind.

By the time I've grappled for a pen and bit of paper I'm sure I'd forget it in the same way. I'm getting old!

It happens all the time. Other people tell me, "then it must have not been that important/good". But I swear it was when I was thinking about it.

Haha! It's the same with me. I have started discussions today but I swear none of them was the "brilliant" one I had in my head before I rose from my bed. It's frustrating to say the least!

Always happen to me. And sometimes it is because I can't really put into words. How lame is that!!! I thought of something in the car the other day, and when I sit in front of my computer, everything flew out the window. I am not quite ready to label myself old....but all the indications are there....

Awww my friend, I do sympathise. It's always the really good discussions I can't remember and even if I'd gone over it again and again in my head...just like you, as soon as I sit in front of my computer...it's gone. It happens on the telephone sometimes as well. When Mum is talking to me in the back of my mind I'm thinking about what I'm going to say next, then when it comes to it...nothing, just a great big, pregnant pause lol.

I don't post much because i'm already in a slump on what to say, but in your case... If you have a brilliant discussion, what I would do is type it down as a rough draft, or write it down if you're not near a computer, and do a timestamp of it to know when you wrote it down. Just go to Notepad or Wordpad, and press F5, type down the topic headline of your post, and write down the topic itself. Make sure to save often though so you don't lose it. You have to check for spelling errors and typos before posting it or else no one will understand what you're talking about. After you post it, you can discard it if you want.

hi janey1966 oh yes I have had that happen several times. I get an idea for a discussion at bedtime and promise myself I will type it out then come morning I sit down at the computer and am in my email and decide to go to mylot and write my discussion. I am on mylot and whoosh where is that great idea the wonderful discussion I was just about to write. It vanished, gone with the wind. So I think up another one, and feel that somehow this one is not the brilliant one that flew away; oddly sometimes the one you did make goes over well with all your friends, just goes to show you never can tell.

If I really, really like it, I try and write it down so I can do it later. If I'm not near paper, sometimes I lose it, which is very annoying!

It usually works for me. Often I go out walking and come up with an idea, compose the entire thing in my head and then type it up when I get back. But if it's overnight, forget it, I most likely won't remember.

Yes, I was mentioning this to Lamb but I know for a fact this wouldn't work either. I have remembered some discussion topics from awaking from my slumber...but not all. I just know this morning's was a good one though but it's now in the dark recesses of my brain so can't be extracted. I think I need a frontal lobotomy! Haha!

Yes I have had that, and unless I immediately post it, it does escape me. I rewally don't start all that many discussions, because i do have a hard time coming up with anything of interst that others would want to respond to. It is hard most of the time coming up with what I think are good topics, but maybe no one else would think they are interesting. It just really depends on the topic as well. Either I will post it right away, or if I am doing something else, I will just write it down for later when I do have the time to post it. Good luck to you and happy mylotting.

Oh yeah, it happens to me all the time. Perhaps this is why I do not start many discussions!

Hi Jane, When i was still new in mylot, i always have that experience. Before going to bed and even after waking up in the morning my mind is so full of ideas to start with or make as a discussion in mylot. But when i sit down infront of the computer and check on my mylot account...all ideas gone. so, what i used to do is just enjoy responding on to existing discussions and my friend's discussions. I too learned to jot it down right away so i will not forget it. don't worry friend you're not alone...at forty i am already so forgetful... i am already having my fair share with "senior moments" hehehehehe!

Oh My Gosh...I know exactly what you mean..Oh My, How does the idea just slip away from the brain, Who knows??? And yet, mind you, the feeling of excitement that you got whilst the idea popped in your head definitely lingers longer..and you trying to wreck the brain to find out what exactly were you so excited for?

It hasn't happened to me in thinking about discussion topics but I have lost some super genius thoughts. It often happens to me when I'm thinking and going to sleep. In my thoughts, I touch the peak of philosophy at the peak things start breaking and at the end, I'm in the middle of nowhere! Its extremely frustrating and trying to recall it is even more frustrating.
