Mercury Retrograde! Important Astrological Information

Here's my Public Service Announcement. Does everyone out there know about Mercury Retrograde? It is generally one of the first things people begin to learn in astrology because it is such useful information. We are just finishing up a retrograde period now. How do you feel? Frustrated? Tired? Fed up? Confused? Overwhelmed? Well, let me tell you why. Mercury Retrograde is a challenging period when Mercury, the planet ruling communication, appears to be travelling backwards. It isn't REALLY, but it does feel like communcation goes backwards and sideways and in the toilet. Communication between and amongst EVERYTHING. Travel, driving, relationships, computers: all challenging. Little conversations with your spouse where you drive each other mad, but it's no one's fault. Everything just seems harder. What's the point? I think, spiritually, it is a chance for us to re-think everything. To learn patience. To revisit. To remember. Anything starting with RE, really. LOL. Retreat. Read. Relive. The secret? Patience. Understanding. Humor. These things can save you. Mercury is the trickster. We are warned by astrologers not to make major decisions or purchases or sign contracts during Mercury Retrograde. Because communication is so easily messed up. What I have found is that things can SEEM so messed up and take extra time and effort and then come out ok in the end without REALLY costing us too much more than time and sanity. What's your Mercury Retrograde story?

Although I don't know much (anything, really) about astrology, I find it interesting. All that I do know is that I am a Capricorn and from what little I've read, I seem to be a textbook case. I would love to have a complete chart done -- it would be interesting. I do read my horoscope, just for fun.

I've a theory that the worst times of a retrograde, is when the planet is stationery, which of course is when they are changing from direct to retrograde, and from retrograde to direct/forward. That these moments/days are like an earthquake so to speak..

- Aha, when the planet is strongest, I never came across that, or thought of that before.. Very interesting! And something to contemplate. I've never really thought of the stationaries with the slower moving planets.. but will now!

Yep. If you know anything about aspects, the slower moving planet is going to be stronger in that aspects. I've heard it referred to as "the boss" of the transit. :) Any planet that is stationery in a chart is going to be exerting more influence at the time.

Ah, you seem to know of what you speak. The planet is said to be the strongest then, because it is slower than usual. The slower the planet=more power. I still had better communications after Mercury went direct and was stationery rather than retrograding station or during the retrograde. That was just my feeling, though. Nothing scientific. :) Thanks for the response.

Gemini, that's me, alright! - Gemini, third sign in the astrological chart
Oh, I don't even bother to talk to anyone much while Mercury is in retrograde. And for a Gemini, that's not easy... I don't always follow Mercury's retrograde (I should since its my ruling planet!). When weird stuff keeps happening all around me, I take a look, and sure enough, that's usually when that stuff happens...

Ha ha. I've been hearing that from a lot of Geminis and Virgos (also ruled by Mercury.) They just try to lay low during retrograde. My husband and son both have Gemini rising as well. It gets fun around here. Thankfully, we always know what to attribute it too. One of my friend's kids had fun with it one time and shook his fist at the sky, yelling "Damn you Mercury!" (not sure I can say the D word here, but we'll see!) Anyway, now we just call it "DYM" LOL. Thanks for your response.

I've just been told that I was born during a Mercury in retro and so it affects me much less than it does other people. I have to say that this is plausible as when Mercury was last in retro (I think it was February, March?) everyone around me was so agitated and I was wondering what the heck was going on as I felt so calm myself. Now that I've learnt that people born during Mercury retrogade have it a bit easier than everyone else it does make sense to me.
