how do you tell your friends that jokes can hurt without hurting them?

I have recently been offended by a friend's joke that she posted on my facebook wall so instead of answering to her post i just deleted it in my wall cause my boss might see it and the joke was about them. I had to make sure that nobody see's it cause both I and my friend works in that company and my boss might take the joke too seriously. My friend got mad and made stories about me and bragging that she is the good one to all our friends and making me look bad. I explained and told them how i feel but none listened and they made sure i feel bad. I don't understand how a damage control act can lead to this. I like my friends but if worst comes to worst i think i am ready to lose them, friendship is suppose to be fun, understanding and collaboration but seeing that it is leading to me losing my job, well, i don't know.

Well, if you got offended by the joke then it's only fair to tell them that it's not funny. Don't mind if it hurts them or not. You got hurt by their joke first.

thanks for the boost for my morale.... i had learned so much from that experience and though we still see each others, i'm ok now now hanging out with them.

You already did it you delete her messages so because of it maybe she take it as an insult and even if you do not confront her she somehow get the ideas that the one she post on your wall is dislike by you. But if you inform her first about your plan to delete her maybe she could understand and that is already too late. Since she already misinterpret you but you could still explain it to her. Hoping she would understand your situation and your reasons for deleting it. maybe she is unaware after all.

i only visited this site now and had read all your response, sadly my friend had taken my action offensive and did not bother to listen to my explanation. I had tried many times to explain but to no avail. I guess I'm done explaining, it was fun being with them but sometimes its also tiring pleasing them.. haist!!!!!

I think your friends are not very nice and not very caring. If they cannot understand that their jokes could cost you your job, they should be apologising to you. You don't need friends like that.
