Can you profit from being scammed?

Motley fool recently wrote an article where they said that boiler rooms frequently convince people to invest significant money with them by giving them a good return on a small initial investment e.g. turning £1000 into £1500.
If thats true why don't con victims just reply to the same people in various names until they have their money back and then some?
