Dog poo & horse poo

Here in the UK, dog owners can be fined upto £1000 if they dont clean up after their dogs.(I think they SHOULD be legally bound to pick it up) and yet horse owners can leave great piles of steaming poo (produced by the horses of course!!!) on roads and pavements. Shouldn't they be obliged to scoop it up and take it home??

I would think that there should be some ordanance that would require them to clean up after their animals. I guess the theory is that with dog poo it would be where others walk yet horse poo is on the road and it may be too dangerous for the rider to get off clean the poo and get back on without being hit by a car.

Possibly but, round here, they let their horses walk & poop on the pavements where people walk (this is not in the town centre of course).

Hiya Wizz, Yep, I think you are right there. Even though I love Horses it cannot be very nice to have to walk around that pile of well you know what on the pavement how awful. I had forgotten about that as I so rarely see a Horse except in the Field going past in the Car. I sometimes see one he looks like a Race Horse to me and he has such poise and elegance and very smart too. Not as smart as "Black Beauty" though. Even so they should be fined or made to keep off the pavements what´s good for the goose is good for the gander. I wonder if the Birds will be fined next?

We're sort of on the very edge of the town where the farmlands start and we get horses by our house a few times a week. I expect the jobsworths would fine the birds if they could catch them... the seagulls are probably laughing & squawking "Take that, sucker!!!" as they dive bomb.

Hiya Wizzy, I can just picture the Seagulls dive bombing as you say and saying just try and catch me. Knowing that you can´t catch them unless you take a pot shot at them and I would´nt do that either. The poor old pigeons have come in for it they are being wiped off the face of the earth too. I know they can be a nuisance but there has to be another way and not poison the poor creatures.

There was a time when anyone with a garden would be happy to scoop it up...

Yes, quite true...I guess that's what lulled horse owners into the laziness of just leaving the **** where it drops.

You are right, they should have to pick it up after the horse has dropped it. They do make so much more of a mess than a little doggy doo doo. Horse poo is actually a commodity here and it sells for $2 per bag out the front of horse properties around here. It is really good for gardens. I guess this may be why it is accepted more and not enforced as the dog droppings are. It is made from grass and is a lot cleaner and less smelly than the rotting meat of dog poo.

Yes, they sell it round here too & I remember my dad bringing it home from the farm where he worked when I was a kid & it really doesn't smell bad but, it still attracts a lot of flies.
