Having a boyfriend: Taboo in Filipino culture?

May 20, 2010 8:51pm CST
I just heard from my friends that their moms are sooooooooo overprotective of them. they can't trust them with the decision to have a boyfriend/lover. is it really just here in the philippines that we experience this impenetrable wall of overprotective-ness or is it in other "liberated" countries as well?

not only in philippines, here too in indonesia, some parents, i call it old fashion parents do not let their doughter to have relationship with a man. but not all parents like that, some parents give a chance but still monitoring their doughter. we know parents do that because they are worried about "the most precious thing for a women". in some country this thing is really important.

relatinship here i mean a relationship with a boyfriend not a marriage relationship. some parents want their dougther to the point to marriage without step to boyfriend and girlfriend relationship.

welcome to the wonderful world of mylot xian. not letting a child to have a relationship does not mean soooooooooo overprotective. that is only giving the right advice. there are a lot of teens who make mistakes due to liberated parents. it is better to finish studies first and have a relationship when you are matired enough to handle it. just my opinion. hope to see you more here and goodluck.

hi,what do you do,if your parnts give liberation to do anything...have you seen a scientist/doctor/highly educationally qualiied ...do you want to roam with other gender with the hard earn money by your parents or roaming on roads at the cost of your studies and future. What is appening in LIBERATED CONTRIES...pregnenies at 13th year it self, changing patners under the umbrella of dating, livng together without marriags[like animals],2-5 times divorces in sngle life.....poor people, they coldnot facedthe recessions once intheir life,if that type of finanial poblems come againwhat the so called liberatd countris do...already many people sold their car,houses...in future?////

Having over protective parents is kind of our culture in Philippines, the parents are just worried of their daughters when engaging in a relationship because of many risks and also temptations, well not all parents are overprotective though. Maybe there are soem from other liberated countries as well, like those religious countries
