Dear myLotters... This topic has been discussed for many years and I have personally participated in a few such discussions- in real and on myLot too.. And yet, we're yet to get to solution... It is about 'sleep!!!' Before one week, it were the bed-bugs who didn't let me sleep... I got them dead last Saturday. Now, it is some kind of worry or maybe stress or maybe... Well, most of the times it is only the memory of my girl-friend, which doesn't let me go to sleep. The body aches and it needs sleep; brain remains active with her name, her face and plans for future with her(in short, everything about her!). No sleep!!! I generally wake up tired in the morning.. There's office and duty... I promise myself then and there, that I'll sleep properly tonight... And I can't keep my promise most of the times. Do you think, sleeping pills would help? I simply need calm and peaceful sleep, full of her dreams... Should I start taking a pill, when I don't feel sleepy?? How is the idea? I have heard it has some bad effects, is it true??? Please share your experience and knowledge my friends... I need your advice and help...

You need a prescription from a doctor to have a sleeping pills. They don't normally give you unless you deserved to be treated. I take antihistamine tablet if I wanted to sleep, that was what I usually do. It helps, I can sleep overnight. But I don't think that will help you as well, it did with me because the more I can't sleep the more my allergic rhinitis occur, I was so noisy sneezing. So antihistamine kept me quiet.

actually, it is chlorepheramine maleate which is in cold tablet. Have you tried taking cold tablet and you feel sleepy afterwards? It's because of the antihistamine.

No, do not take sleeping pills. To many problems with pills. Use honey. I use honey on bread just before bed and sleep like a baby. I didn't always. I have had this same discussion here on mylot. One member also told me to eat cherries..........I did and they worked but the honey is more to my liking PLUS it's helping with the aches of pains of arthritis. You have just been away from your lady too long. Now, put some honey on a piece of bread tonight and go to sleep ! hugs, quita

Are you talking about en exgirlfriend? If yes then probably it is depression. Yes, I went through it and I had to take sleeping pills to make myself fall asleep. Most sleeping pills have two problems. One is that it makes your body dehydraded. So when you will wake up your skin might look a bit dry and you might get some dirk circles around eyes. Another one is addiction. But this addiction does not happen to all. At one point, you have to try to go to sleep without the sleeping pills so you can avoid getting addicted to it. To do this, simply do some physical work in the evening. This is how when you will be in bed you will be tired and thus fall asleep without the pills. Good luck!

Hi Athena... No I am not talking about ex girl friend... Although she has done a lot to give me many months of sleeplessness... I am talking about my fiancee, whom I miss more than anything.. Haven't seen her for months and hence, feel terribly alone now... In the night, when I lay on the bed, I feel something, which is not describable... I don't have words to describe it... But I miss her so much... That is what deprives me of sleep... I didn't know that sleeping dose would have so many side-effects... Please read the post above yours... Jotomy has explained the same disadvantages that you've given here, but she has a personal and heart-rending experience to relate to... I think, I'll consult with my doctor about it.... Thanks a lot for your valuable advice my friend... Have a nice time!

Thanks for the clarification. But yes, I did experiment with all the brands of sleeping pills. What is written in the above post is about pills that have more intense igredients. All sleeping pills aren't bad. But in your case, do you call her before going to sleep? I know its not the most effective way to minimize the sleeplessness, but at least hearing her voice should make you feel better.

I am one of those people who takes sleeping pills - when it can't be helped anymore. Because the tendency of sleeping pills is that you become dependent on it. And it has also its side effects. This certain medicine I am taking gives me the side effects of headache. Its really annoying so that's why I don't take it much as before. The best advice I could give for you is to have a doctor see you because if you do buy sleeping pills without prescription - I am just concerned of your health - the side effects might be more trouble than the sleeping disorder itself. You need to be in control of your body. So I hope whatever the doctor tells ou, take heed of their advice.

I would try something natural such as melatonin before I'd mess with sleeping pills. But if you end up needing them, make sure you're really clear about the risks first.

I have never taken any sleeping pills but for the name itself i think you can sleep well. But taking sleeping pills everyday is not good i think. So, better learn to let go of the past and move on. That's the best thing to do to live life back to normal. Do not waste time thinking of someone who doesn't deserve your love. Chill!!

There were nights in the past where I was sleepless and found it very unhealthy because we have to sleep to rest the body and I did not sleep at all so in the morning when everyone is healthy and fit, I feel dizzy and lazy, then I took sleeping pills for some nights, and yeah it worked for me and then gradually I decreased the dose and finally here I am sleeping peacefully now. It was some worry, some tension which was affecting me though.

As far as I am concerned, I think the sleeping pills do have some effection on our sleep. Even they can help us to go to sleep more easily. But have you ever noticed that if you just have some more sleeping pills when we are going to sleep , it harms our body health so much in our life. So we may try our best to be far away from the sleeping pills.

I am sorry but I don't think pills is a good solution to your problem. Why not try to outline your activities?. You can't sleep because you have so many worries in your mind. Try to rearrange your schedules, relax little by little, sometimes, trying to do everything makes you do nothing. Try to think this way, you said you can't sleep because of the memories of your girlfriend, have you ever asked yourself if she can't also sleep because she is thinking much of the memories of you?

Hi Rowena... Thanks for your valuable advice... I'll try to follow it... Thing is that that when things get messy and stupid, my mind can't relax.. I simply can't even sit at one place or in my rooms... Whenever I am stressed, I must do something which involves physical activities... That makes my sleep more difficult... I'll try to follow your advice, because at present, peaceful and patient and active mind is all I need... thnks again... Have a nice time!

Sleeping pills do help (most) people go to sleep; but be sure to read and understand all the side-effects and risks associated with some of them. There are some "natural" substances which are supposed to help with sleep, too. Of course, these, too, might come with side-effects you need to learn about first. Probably best to check with your health professionals, in any case.

You can always try it, but you must remember that everyone's body reacts differently to different medications. Also, if you take it every night you may become dependent on it for sleep so that is something you must be aware of if you do decide to try it.

Well, I have not started taking those pills yet and that is why, I want to know in advance whether it'll be good or bad... You say the bodies react differently, so should I consult a good doctor about this??? Trust me, I don't want to be dependent of anything to get some sleep... Thanks for your advice buddy..
