Having a safe home should be one of our top priorities, a place where we are protected from what is potentially harmful. If we are not careful we can inadvertently surround ourselves with substances that can be toxic to our bodies. Below are some suggestions for creating a healthier home:
1. By purchasing products that contain wholesome, organic, and inert components we will avoid most common household toxins. Always read labels.
2.Most things in the home can be cleaned and disinfected using varying combinations of baking soda, vinegar, salt, tea tree oil, herbs, and gentle castile soap. Use organic cotton slipcovers that can be washed regularly.
3. Plants clean and add oxygen to the air we breathe.Placing two plants in each room will rid the air of toxins and pollutants while balancing indoor humidity levels. Air purifiers are an easy way to have clean air and are especially useful in a bedroom. We should also clean air ducts and furnace and change filters regularly.
4. Nontoxic paints and varnishes adds beauty to the house or apartment while lowering our exposure to unsafe chemicals.
5. When away from home for an extented period it's a good idea to pay close attention to the dominant fragrance we perceive upon our return. It's possible we may discover toxins that might otherwise have gone unrecognized.
6. We should always be aware of the water we drink and bathe in and if possible consider adding a whole-house filter system.
7. Consider using organic cotton sheets, down comforters, and wool fiber mattresses as an alternative to standard bedclothes.
8. When building a new home,we should consider carefully the materials we choose. Choosing sustainable wood floors over wall-to-wall carpeting can be very beneficial to those with allergies and sensitivities.
Please feel free to add your own suggestions.

Since I live in a foreign country(Thailand) and I am single I am fortunate that I do not have to deal with those problems. My little flat is clean however, The Thai people are extremely concious of cleanliness. They use a lot of natural products that are evironmentally safe. My girlfriend keeps my flat almost hospital clean.
If a pillow or pillowcase looks like it is too soiled after several uses and washes, she disgards it and we get new ones.
The same thing applies to dishes, laundry and anything else she feels is unhealthy. She disgards it and gets new clean replacements. Am I not lucky to have her?
