It is being reported that a deal has been struck between member of congress and the DOD on repealing "Don't ask, don't tell". I can not find the details on "the deal" yet...but it is being said it could be voted on in congress in the next couple of weeks. We will have to wait and see.
I wonder how much of a fire storm this is going to turn into. Especially in an election year. I know I am going to tick some of you off...but hey...I speak my mind...I think they should be able to serve openly without fear of being kicked out. So I hope it passes. What do you think...do you think it will pass?

To assume that the greatest military in the world cannot handle what most of the other military establishments of other country have been doing for years is absurd.
This has always been about politicians and not about the real world or the military.
They said they would never be able to integrate the blacks and yes it took some time. I think the day after this is changed it is the last day of it being an issue.

I hope you are right. I would like it not to be an issue anymore.

Yep...I agree. It is there business and it should not keep them from being able to serve their country.

I am going to be contacting my members of congress to tell them vote for this. I don't know if they will. But if enough people put preasure on them they might.
This should have been done a long time ago.

Yep...that would be a "real" social progress and one that badly needed.

I always thought don't ask, don't tell was already a deal.

Yep Clinton put don't ask don't tell in place and now it looks like there is a deal to get rid of it. that way they can serve in the military openly.

I personally don't see a problem with homosexuals/lesbians serving our country in the military (heck, we have Congressmen "serving"...just wish they knew what some of them were suppose to be doing...serving the people), and I'm ok with whatever change they make, as long as it's based on a reasoned analysis by our military commanders and isn't a political knee jerk. If the commanders are ok with it, I'm ok with it.

I agree. I have not seen the deal yet...but if it lets them serve openly without getting into trouble...then I am fine with it.
