Dreamcatchers -- Believer or Non-Believer..

Dreamcatcher - A dreamcatcher is hung from the roof in the bedroom. It only allows good dreams to filter through, bad dreams are caught in the net. Nice decoration. Some people believe in th mystic powers of dreamcatchers.

Hello, A friend of mine gave me a dreamcatcher as a thank you present the other day. I did not have a clue as to what it was, I thought it was a wind chime but without the chime. Having now learned that it is meant to catch a persons bad dreams in the net and only allow good dreams through, I thought I would ask myLot members if the had one in their homes and do they believe in there mystical powers. I am a non-believer but it looks cool, and it certainly cant do any harm.

Believer in the power of suggestion - when my son was in elementary school he was having a problem with nightmares for a while. We got him a dreamcatcher, explained what it was for and showed him "proof" on the Internet about what they are supposed to do, and hung it in his window. No more nightmares! Whether it actually "catches" the bad dreams or he just "believes" it does; doesn't matter. He has his dreamcatcher and he does not remember having any bad dreams.

I am glad it has worked out well for your son. Maybe this does prove that the dreamcatcher does actually work. Mind over matter. Have a good day..

My sister has one. I don't actually believe that it works, but it's a pretty thing and I might want one for myself. I don't really have bad dreams anyway. The way I catch dreams bad dreams is by not filling my head with nightmare fuel in the first place. I don't watch horror movies or read horror stories. It keeps the bad dreams away better than any dream catcher could.

I have a teenie weenie dreamcatcher. I think it was meant to go on a key ring but I put it up at a window, where they're supposed to go, to catch the bad dreams. I don't believe in them as far as keeping bad dreams out goes but I do believe in the power of the mind. If you believe they work, they probably will work, kinda. I mean, the object itself is quite innocuous but belief is a powerful thing. I agree that they look cool. They really do.

Does that mean you only have teenie weenie dreams.... Sorry I'm just having a silly moment. Back to sensible head.. A crucifix can be an innocuous item but just look at the power it has over so many people around the world. Could you swear your dreamcatcher does not really work

I know that Native Americans believed that the night air is filled with dreams both good and bad and that is why they used these dreamcatchers. I do not have one or paticularly believe in them, but I respect others wishes and I think that they are very pretty.

Hi, I wouldn't say I believe in it having any power but this present you have receive is something that old red indians used .. who know? perhaps you will have some beautiful dream journey? Give it a shot.. after all it does seem kinda cool to have such a decoration.

So after having dream catcher, have you dream bad lately? I haven't seen dream catcher. I do have a book entitle Dream Catcher though. Dream catcher is interesting. I wish to have only good dreams every night, because it affects me when I dream bad. Or maybe I am too negative in life. Hope you share some more about dream catcher.

No I still have good and bad dreams even with the dreamcatcher. So it does not stop bad dreams, just catches them so not to spoil the day.

Hi Haddowz, I do have to agree with you that they can be really cool looking and especially the hand-crafted ones. Do I believe in them? No, I don't. I do, however, believe in the power of positive thinking. I do believe that if a person strongly believes that something like that can work then it may be a tool to help them remain positive.

Hi Haddowz, I have one also that a friend bought for me but I don't believe in them as such. Some of the designs you get are lovely. Huggles. Ellie :D

hi haddowz that looks really neat and would not mind having one in myown room. Is that perhaps from Sioux or Crow Indian culture? I have read about them but never really saw one up close like that, kind of interesting. Also I go by an old adage from Shakespheare "Theres more things on heaven and earth than are dreamed of in your philosophy Horatio." v

hi again. i love dream catchers. i once went to this city and saw dream catchers. i bought one that i can use as a pendant for my necklace. =) i like the whole concept of the dream catcher. wish i had known this when i was younger. from where i come from, we are not really familiar with the myth of such. but it would be nice to have something that would cast of bad dreams. the dream catcher originated from the Ojibwa nation(Native americans). it was said that the dream catcher would only allow good dreams to pass through. bad dreams will remain on the net and will disappear with the light of day. the inspiration for the design of a dream catcher would be the spider's web.

I believe...but by personal experience. I have had horrible and very vivid nightmares since I was a child. I actually ran across an older indian lady at a flea market that was selling them. They were pretty cheap so I thought..what the hey..I hung it next to where I slept. I did stop having dreams for a while and one day I noticed that one of the purple feathers hade bleached out completly white. It could have been the sun I guess. I have always thought it worked for me.

I do have one in my livingroom. I guess I really should have it in my bedroom. I don't have alot of bad dreams thankfully. I really only have it because I just love the design of them. If I was to get alot of bad dreams then I would put it in my bedroom to see if it really worked or not. Now I'm wondering if it worked for others.

My daughters both have one. I don't particularly believe either, but they are pretty and an interesting cultural artifact...
