No, I don't pray like this. My family does. When I was growing up my mother had a set of three prayers that I was supposed to say before going to bed. She was never overly religious, but this is something she made me say aloud and do before bed every night. She would always make sure to remind me and I felt like I needed to do it because she made me. By the time I was older, I was tired when I went to bed and so I rushed through the words as much as possible or sometimes didn't say them at all and lied and said I did. Sometimes I would think them and fall asleep in the middle. In the end, I prayed because I felt like I had to, not because I wanted to. I said the words, but they were meaningless and I didn't really believe or feel what I was saying. So I stopped. Now, I pray whenever I feel like it. I think that's a truer version of praying than anything. I don't force myself to pray because I think God gets tired of listening to the same prayers over and over again, saying the same words or constantly asking for the same things. I pray when I'm thankful. I pray when I'm happy. I pray when I see something particularly beautiful or amazing in the world. I pray when I'm sad. I pray when I need someone to listen or when I feel like everything is too overwhelming. Most times I pray just to give thanks, but when I really DO feel thankful and not when I'm told I have to pray. That way I'm not just saying the words, I'm living and breathing them.

cognoscentethelegend, thanks for your response, but you missed the whole point of my post. Did you even read it at all? Why would I pray at night every night if it's a chore and I don't actually enjoy it? What would be the point? Then it's just falsities and I'm lying to God. I pray when I feel it because then it's the truth and I'm saying what I mean. If that happens to be at bedtime then fine, but it's not every bedtime and I'm not going to repeat the same meaningless prayers because I know that when I say them it's not really me that's praying. It has nothing to do with being tired or rushing or anything like that.

Fine, you mom has developed the very good habit for you. But it's in our hand whether to follow or not. Though we feel very tired, we need to take some time remember our mother and god before going to bed. Why should we rush up. Its my suggesstion, try to continue your pray hereafter.

Ya, we can't predict the future. We doesn't know what will happens on the next day. But we have trust in god to make the next day as the better one when compared to today.

Oh yes, I think most of us do pray before bed and in rising up in the morning. My prayer usually is a thank you prayer for the Lord for all the graces, the guidance, and safety living the whole day and the past. In the morning, it is also a thank you prayer for giving us a very nice morning and another day for all of us to celebrate. And of course, at the same time asking for His guidance for the day and the days ahead.

That is always the right thing to do. Pray before and after going to bed. I used to do that since I was a kid and until now that I am older, It becomes a habit to me. If you started it early enough in life it will become like a normal thing in your life. It is a part of your daily existence already.

Ya, from the childhood if we continue the thing, then why we need to worry about it. I don't know why my parents have taught it to me.

Hi friend, Its nice to pray to god in morning as well as before going to bed. Your Parents have developed a nice habit in you. As regards me I do Pooja and pray god in morning after taking bath. Before going to bed i chant name of the GOD, without disturbing others.
