Algae can and could be used as a way to fuel vehicles and airplanes and really is a better approach. It requires sunshine and water to grow. The reason its sustainable is algae can double its weight several times a day. The reason its convenient is it can be grown in salt water, fresh water, contaminated water, and can even be grown at very low temperatures. It also doesn't interfere with the food supply like corn ethanol does. There is other great approaches out now such as electric cars,Solar Power, and Wind Power. Algae Fuel would definitely be the most sustainable way to get fuel for energy needs. Getting enough acres of land is really all thats needed. It beats drilling in the ground for oil.

Hi elmiko, This is quite an interest article about algae being a good source for fueling our vehicles. If this is true, I really don't understand what the government is waiting for. It would solve the problem of the high gas prices. It seems to be very simple and unintrusive on the planet's environment. Sure they, the government or the oil companie want a better environment. But of course this way would probably put the oil companies out of business. There has to be a really good reason way this is not taking form. I wish I knew what that reason is.

i think i'm going to take thing in my own hands and grow my own algae mix it with sewage from my septic tank. you know they do have raw sewage power plants in germany i've seen on tv. now if i could power a car with such a disgusting mixture all i would need would be 1 additional thing. a chemical to get rid of the stink.

Hi elmiko, Sometime we have to take matters into our own hands. After you get rid of the stinky smell, let me know if you are on to something. I don't know how you will stand going into the sepic tank even if it is for a good cause.

Yeah I have read about this technology already. I think this is a very good way to harvest fuel in the coming days. I hope they would develop this new technology and check if it can be mass produced since the demand for fuel these days is really increasing by the day that having this technology can help the shortage of such fuel can be supplied accordingly.

I'm for anything renewable like that if it's clean and doesn't cause other problems of its own.

I think there is a wonderful potential here with this product. The fact that it is so common and easy to grow may be going against it right now when most see more dollars earns by other solutions .

thats the main problem is that it can be much cheaper and people can't profit as much from it. this could had been an option on a national or even an international scale by now if people would had made a commitment to working to make this commercially available.
