What kind of Boss Do You Have? Mine? Sheesh!

I am seriously considering another company's offer because of my boss
Several months back I was happy at work cause I was working for under a different manager
My old boss was what you'd call a people person and cared more about the welfare of his people tan stats. Agents were tired but they still came to work day in and day out looking forward to tomorrow under his leadership
And then that boss had to leave and be replaced with this new one
Now this new one was a very good performer before he got promoted and he was actually one of the people I admired
and then i found out first hand how he coaches people and tries to motivate people
I say tries because it comes out as if he's intimidating
there was a session where we had a mini shouting match cause his style and mine were far to different
If you're going to motivate an agent that way, I think it'd work cause they'd be so scared to cross your path but I'm not an agent and we both know that I know how coaching sessions work and intimidating me to do what he asks would just not work.
This is just one of the reasons why I'm almost out the door because of the type of boss I have now
It's confusing and you're always looking out for yourself when i'm in the office. Schedules are amiss. Motivation for supervisors and agents are probably at the lowest now
Gotta go now. I gotta drag myself to work whereas before I loved going to work everyday even on rest days

hi chipesterkhan the first boss I had at the library was a wonderful woman who would pitch in and help when we were short of pages or clerks in the library. she was a good leader and she cared about each of us. but she worked there for several years then was transferred to the branch in her own home town. Then we got the boss from hell, she was bi polar but refused to take her medication. thus on some days we were the best darned staff she had ever had, we could do no wrong, then the next day she growled at us, and we tried to stay away as she would scream at us we were the worst staff she had ever worked with, and nothing we did was right.she even laid me off, nice term for fired, because only that I was too old she said. then she was fired for firing me . Headquarters had got her admission that I was an excellent worker but the second in command wanted me gone so she did this to please her. so both the boss and the second in command were fired for illegally firing me on the basis of age.
Sadly on the day I received the letter telling me I could be rehired, I was in the hospital with a smashed left shoulder having shoulder joint replacement surgery.thus ended any chance of going back as it left me with an almost useless left arm. No page can shelve media with a useless arm. sad but that was the way the ball bounced.

There is no perfect boss actually. We can change the way we look at things but we can never change our boss. If we are not happy anymore with our workplace because of our boss even if we are happy with our job per se, I think it is about time to look for another job, only and only if your financial capability permits you to do so.
If your family depends on your salary and you do not have savings yet, just endure your boss for the meantime. The right time will come when you will have your opportunity to change jobs. It is all about timing.

Hello. I can say that I'm so lucky because I've always been blessed with good supervisors. Right now, I have a boss who's really good in what he does. He's very technical and I'm always amazed of his technical skills. I like how organized he is and how keen he is to details. What I also find interesting about him is he's a man of few words but he does a lot of walk regarding his talking. No non-sense and very father-like. He's not the type of guy who talks most of the time. He's always busy with his task but I can feel him checking on me from time to time. I like the way he manages people because I don't feel smothered. I am the type of worker that I won't like it if my boss keeps on bugging me or getting into what I do. I'm the type who likes it quiet and I'll just run to you if you need my help and I'm happy that he's acknowledging the way I do my things and yet he still makes me feel acknowledged.
I hope you feel better about your boss and your job. I hope that you'll be able to manage everything and work it out with your boss. If worse comes to worst, at the very least, I would want your happiness wherever it is.

I don't work at the moment but I do sympathise with you regarding your "new" boss. My Mum works in a school kitchen and is in charge. There are another two ladies who work on buffets for other schools but use her kitchen to prepare the food, then take it to wherever. The times each of them has referred to the kitchen as "theirs" or if someone comes into the kitchen they are all over them like a rash but the person really wants to see Mum, not either of those two.
What I'm trying to say that there are some people that love the "boss" tag and some that find it a hindrance at times, like my Mum who has often said she would like to be MORE assertive. However, if she was more assertive she wouldn't be the kind, considerate person that she is so one has to strike a balance.
It seems to me that your "new" boss is trying too hard because you did say that you admired him before he was in charge.
Personally, I would give him more time to adjust because it my be difficult for him too finding himself in this position. Obviously, I don't know him like you do but how long can this offer from another company be left open? If they can leave it open for a month or so then give your "new" boss this amount of time to get settled. I wouldn't do anything rash at this stage. I've resigned from jobs in the past and I ended up being unemployed longer than expected.
I wish you luck, anyway.

You've got to let your boss read the book entitled"Winning without intimidation" so that he will know how to handle his subordinates. I was in the same situation where you are now ten years ago, I was enjoying my work, but when my boss was replaced everything changed. And because of that I decided to resign and work in another university.

I am fortunate that my current manager and all the past bosses I have were good leaders and nice to their people. They are all motivated and objective.

Hi,the kind of boss one has makes a lot of of difference how he feel about his work and office environment.
As regards me i have got a very good boss, technically competent, human in nature and considerate about problems of his team.
Hope you will get a better job with a better boss. But continue here till that time.
