Avira or Kapersky antivirus for Windows Vista?

A few days ago, my laptop was infected by a trojan virus and wreaked havoc on my system. When I opened my pc the day after the start up menu was gone even the dekstop background. The good thing is that I can access the windows explorer so I was able to open up most of my programs and documents. I was able to go to the web and downloaded a program called combo fix and restored my pc to its original set up. I'm using avira antivirus when my system was infected and still am. I am, however, contemplating of changing my av to kapersky or even avast antivirus cause it seems that avira cannot protect my system from a simple trojan attack. Should I change my antivirus or not?
