How do we know that God was a man?Surely its a possibility that he was a she,I cant think of a reason why God would have to be a man.Throughout the history of religion it is man who has dominated completely in the sexes so it goes without saying that God will be perceived as a man,Maybe this is the only reason we don't see God as a woman today.

God is neither a man or a woman but has both characteristics. He created both man and woman in his image, with qualities He possesses. In the Bible He is often spoken in the masculine sense since He created man with characteristics of a protector, while the woman is the nurturer. But He also is spoken of with feminine qualities. Matthew 23:37 (New International Version) 37"O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing.

God is either and neither a man or a woman. We only deem God as a male figure because we still live in a patriarchal society where both man and woman can be represented by males.

We hindus think that the almighty god is a woman. The mother is the god. We call her "ADHI PARASAKTHI" (THE ALL MIGHTY POWER).The mother of all gods.

There have been many many different concepts of "God" Sometimes it's an animal, or a snake, or whatever you want. Being a man doesn't make any more sense than an animal.

God is nor female or male. Cause you can't see, and touch, but can only feel. God is everywhere and it's like a spirit. SO there is no gender in God since God is beyond human.

I am not sure what affiliation you are. But I know that in the Bible it refers to Him as He.

Hi joniebee, God is not a being of flesh and blood as we are on this earth but we are all spiritual beings. Our physical bodies are like a house that eventually is of no more use. Seeing God as either a man or a woman makes no sense at all. Blessings.

Gender is a parameter of this physical world. God is neither male nor female. We are all spiritual beings trapped in a physical body. Freed from our physical bodies and gender would mean nothing to us as well.

Before we haggle over this question whether God is a male of a female we must know what God is. Since we live in a male dominated society, we tend to think that God is an entity and therefore, he ought to be a male. To nature, we have assigned a role of a woman. We believe that they together have brought forth this creation. Another religious thought is that whenever God reveals His divine presence on earth he comes in a form of a male; and a female only must bring Him forth into this world. The female, most pure and virtuous too is a female personification of God. Therefore, we can safely assume that God as pure spirit is genderless, but He can choose to personify as male or female.
