the local elections on Reykjavik. The name is literally the Best Party (Besti Flokkurinn) and their election video is quite good I think http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxBW4mPzv6E The party is led by a comedian, and none of the elected party members have any political experience. So, for those of you who think Iceland should pay back what their banks lost: forget it! The money will be used on free towels and a polar bear to the city zoo :-) So, how to turn this into a discussion ... You think they have a chance? Or is experience a so important part of political life that they'll only make a mess of it? Or isn't it possible to mess up Icelandic politics more? Some of the things they "want" are quite Icelandic. I suppose every country/community have local problems the politicians go on and on about. We have cold water coral reef that are threatened by Russian king crabs. I'm sure there must be some more interesting ones out there.

well there is that but the fact is, it is a natural disaster. Unfortunately a lot of people missed the sarcasm.

don't worry about that. americans regularly miss sarcasm. i don't know what the equivalent of the 'sarcastic tone of voice' is for writing but don't use it. it looks silly.

I don't think they should pay either. Not because I have a clue, but because Eva Joly (who has a clue) says that they shouldn't. And everyone now and then I listen to people with a clue, it's only polite I think :-) All the besti yourself!

I'm wondering what they did with all the people normally wandering around in Reykjavik, it's nearly empty. Maybe everyone else were out watching the volcano?

I'm pretty sure they would, the Icelanders like their ice-cream, especially with licourice topping ;-)
