i am of the impression that they will pay but only if it is a response which is of a decent quality which is fair enough as otherwise people could put anything up.

Your right about ensuring your response is of high quality before you get paid, I forgot to mention that in my previous post.
No point in finding an old post / discussion and writing a load of rubbish thinking that no-one will notice.
Pretty pointless, remember if you found the posting then so can others.

you can do whatever, as long as they suit to the mylot admin... as told to us in their guidelines and faq answers....
and, there is a clear wording .. somewhere, in mylot admin words... saying, you get paid for your activity. your thought provoking and lengthy answers, to any topic., so long as it does not violate the guidelines, will reward you.

That's a good question to ask, I have often wondered about the answer to that myself.
I guess they must pay, if not then why have they left the discussion up in the first place.
Maybe it only takes one person to respond to an old discussion to restart the interest in it. After all there are new members joing every hour.

of course they will pay us. remember that we are being paid here for the comments/responses/discussions that we make as long as its in good quality and not violating any guidelines. and actually you can respond to a discussion even if its 3 years old! hehe
i am one of those who still responds to old discussions no matter if its weeks, months or years old ago...and i am earning good and somehow i am also helping my friends making their discussions comes to life again...
