good day mylotters! i was told by a friend that i should never charge my phone if its battery isn't empty as it might damage the battery. well, i've been charging my phone even if it still has, say 3 bars, to avoid low battery status. what should i do? i've just bought a new phone and i want its battery to last longer.

Yup, it's proven to be true. It's not healthy for batteries to be charged when it isn't empty. But of course all batteries eventually wear out after many months or even years of using them. But taking care of your batteries will save you money as you'll be able to use them longer.

You need to allow your battery to die. That's actually good for it. You might not see it right away, but if you constantly keep it charged, then the battery will remember this, and start giving you low battery even if its fully charged, because it thinks its not. If you talk constantly, then charge it more often, but if you use it sparingly then you'll get longer use out of it. I only have to charge my phone once a week because I actually let it die.

don't let it fully charged and fully drained. There is a site that i forgot now that have tested how they can let the battery last longer but they say that not fully charging and draining is the best one. well batteries are disposable anyway and they can last longer depending on the cycle of use cycle meaning charging, using, depleting. well they say a average battery can last for 3000 cycles without that much depletion of charge if i estimated correctly, you can use that battery for 24 hours more or less for 6-8 months.

The other user is right. You need to let the battery drain before you charge it up again. I always wait until I get the low battery warning, as by doing so, that alone helps the battery to last longer, and therefore, it would have a better life. I also charge my battery with my phone off, as it is much better to do it that way as well. Just let your battery completely drain or at least wait charging it until you get the low battery warning, as you will find that your battery will last much longer that way. Take care, and happy mylotting.

Old rechargeable battery types like NiCD and NiMH are susceptible to the "memory effect" although the latter is less affected by this. Lithium-Ion, the new type of battery, however is not susceptible to this memory "effect". Therefore, if you have Lithium Ion battery, you can charge it even if you battery is not yet empty. Take note though, if your battery is brand new, it still advised to fully charge and discharge the battery for the first three cycles. I hope this helps. Keep lotting
