How do you texture polygonal hair?

I'm currently working on a project. I'm creating an animation short and i'm using a girl as the main character. I don't have a high-processing computer to do a hair particles on her so i'm using polygonal hair. Can anyone suggest any techniques on how to texture it? I'll just rig it with armatures for animation.
