In what way do you know about Chinese people? CNN? Negative views about China?

I've been working as a translator for a dating website for communication between
Chinese people and English speaking people. I find that most English speaking people know little about China or Chinese people? So, how much do you know Chinese people? and in what way? Do you have Chinese friends?

I think it would be great to be an interpreter. Languages interest me. If you have mastered both English and Chinese (Cantonese or Mandarin?) you have accomplished a great deal. Good for you! I work on a site that helps people improve their English pronunciation. I wish I could speak another language fluently.
Please tell us something about China and the people of this vast land. It is so very large with so many people. My country is very large too, but not nearly such a large population, nor with such an ancient history.
