Soup in the summer?

I just got moved into my apartment and got my groceries all stocked up. I unpacked my crock pot that had been packed for almost a year now. Then I just had to make some soup because it's been so long since I had some good, healthy home-made soup! As I was eating a big bowl of it last night, I realized it's like 95 degrees (F) outside! I know when I lived in Louisiana you just couldn't get good gumbo in the summer because it's considered a winter food! I figure if it's good who cares what time of year it is?!?

I'll eat/drink soup any old time, regardless of the season.
If I'm in the mood for it, then by dang I'm going to eat/drink it! Besides, it's not the temperature outside that gets to me anyway...it's the INSIDE temperature produced by the oven, that heats up my innards.

Oh indeed, I agree with you wholeheartedly. I don't know where I'd be without the slow cooker. It's an amazing machine, especially in summer. I've cooked many a good meal in that thing, and I can honestly say that it's proven it's money's worth several of times over. The other thing I like about it is...not too much to clean up after. :-) Everybody should own one!

Yeah.. but I usually use the crock pot and it cooks while I am gone. Which of course is another added benefit!!

Hi, macdingolinger. I had soup in March of this year. That is the last time that I have remember having some. But if I get sick with a cold, I will eat soup, just when I am inside of the cool air that is. I could never eat soup when it is hot inside with no cool air.

I can eat it all year round!! I think if I was just outside where it's hot I might not like it as much though. But I am always inside when I eat!

oh yea, tomato soup is good. I usually make a vegetable/lentil soup most of the time. Then I like some white bean soup and chilis too.

Cold soup? That doesn't sound too good to me, but I might try it once. I'll have to look up some recipes to see if anything looks enticing!
