Are you teaching your children to cook? I have three teens 19, 16, and 13 and they have been cooking for a long time. We have homeschooled for 9 years and we just incorporated cooking with it. My 16 year old cooks supper for us a lot. They can make scratch biscuits and cornbread. Many adults can't even do that.

I know I show my children how to do the basic right now due to the ages but my oldest who is 16 do know how to burn alittle bit he mainly like to go outside ans man the grill but I also encouraged him to take a food clsaa in school and he came home cooking so the the things that h learned and for my youngest one who is 6 shes a microwave diva she love it when I let her cook or heat something up in the microwave been her time is coming up to learn some of the big stuff. I highly recommmend to my friends and family to teach their kids how to cook because I'm not promise tomorrow and I sure don't want them to have to depend on anyone for things especially simple things like cooking.

My 13 year old does more cooking than my 17 year old. My 13yo used to make her OLDER sister's lunch! And that consisted of a sub sandwich. Sometimes I think it's just plain laziness. Last year my 13yo had a school assignment where she had to make the family a meal and write down the total calories and nutritional values. She is always willing to help me cook if I ask. She will make herself a box of Kraft Dinner or a hot dog. My older daughter, however, sticks to baking. She will bake a cake with directions from the box, or she will pull out a cookbook and bake Christmas sweets, but I don't think she can even grill a sandwich. Funny because when she was just a toddler she used to stand on a chair and stir the boiling noodles for me. But then, my husband's cooking repertoire is limited to hot dogs, Kraft Dinner, bacon and eggs, and recently added, Shake n Bake chicken and mashed potatoes.

I was usually at work when my men needed to eat. My husband and son are good cooks now. A good cook book and supplies, they learnt well.
