Latest reports are that it may take until August to finally stop the oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico.
This is of course an ecological disaster for the areas involved but could also be a catastrophe for the UK.
BP was once Britain's largest industrial company and it is coming closer to financial ruin.
This could have a big impact on our nation , gas prices and so everything else will rise, pensions could be affected - this is areal problem economically as well as environmentally..
What is your opinion?

I have no doubt that the oil spill will have global ramifications. Apparently, from what I read in another discussion, China has already jumped on the bandwagon and has dramatically increased the price of the shrimp that they import here. That price increase has nothing to do with the oil spill other than an opportunity for them to show their greed and be the first to do some price gouging. The shrimp from the Gulf of Mexico has not risen in prices... yet. It will, though.
Yes, I see this affecting the entire world in one way or another. It is the worst oil disaster EVER to hit the United States and they're saying it could take decades to recover completely from it. Of course, with BP having to spend so much money trying to fix this problem, it will severely affect anyone who has anything to do with BP, including it's employees and franchisees all over the world.
It couldn't have come at a worse time, either, with the recession we've all been going through.

In fact they were talking about it on CNN they stated it could take over 200 years before the effects are cleared away. Because nothing this big has ever happened before. On the weather station they had one scientist that said it may be impossible for the effects to ever correct itself, so as of right now we are between 200 years and forever.

I can definitely see the world having to make some lifestyle changes because of this. Shrimp lovers will have to pay a lot extra for their shrimp or learn to do without them. People in the shrimping industry will need to look for a new means of support. I see the beach resorts that are and will be the worst hit by this closing because people will be going elsewhere to vacation and spend their money.
Of course, with the wildlife being killed by this, it may (probably will) have a rippling affect throughout the world. The natural "pecking order" will be disrupted, at least in this area, and I doubt it will ever be the same again.
One thing I hope will come out of this is that major companies like BP (but not just oil companies) will now be working on plans for any disaster that may come in the future.
I think it's despicable that BP did not have a disaster plan for an emergency like this.

I have a bad feeling that this will soon enough start even effecting Mexico, and many other countries. Mexico also is on the Gulf so I am sure it will start effecting there waters as well, and what about the Bahamas, and all of the other countries close by that fish. This is going to be one big bad mistake. It wont just be the US that is effected it will be most countries as well.
