Dog Cruelty: They Are Just Dogs

People where I live are mostly ignorant about taking care of dogs. Don't get me wrong almost all the houses here have 2 or 3 dogs. But they are so darn irresponsible of taking care of them which makes me mad. I have never been more convinced to train my dogs for basic obedience so I can use them as an ambassador to promote dog awareness in my city. I see dog cruelty almost everyday in my own neighborhood. There is this one male mix breed dog his coat looks like that of a poodle, He could have been a very beautiful dog but this dog is left by his owner to roam around the neighborhood unleashed. I wonder sometimes if the dog is fed by its owners as I see him scavenging through the garbage cans (this makes the neighborhood look dirty). He is not given any bath and he smells a lot. I bet he has fleas and ticks as well. Every time I see the owner I have to restrain myself from smacking him and for being rude when he stops by to admire how beautiful Louise is when I walk her. I also try to contain myself from being so sarcastic. Another neighbor has 10 dogs and there are 10 boisterous, smelly, lice infested dogs. Unfortunately we do not have a city ordinance for this kind of dog cruelty and there is nobody for me to call. The city pound is nothing but a slaughter house. The city they say has no budget for keeping dogs in the pound as there are pressing issues more urgent than keeping dogs alive. I hope we could open the animal shelter very soon but we are facing all kinds of barriers right now. Financially we are having a hard time doing some fund raising as people do not find this as a good cause! :( To them they are just dogs. We are facing a lot of criticism of all sorts for choosing this kind of advocacy yet they praise dog owners whose dogs are well kept! We have our share of tears and frustration at this stage when we are being grilled with unnecessary comments and no one wants to help us. But even with this we are determined to give those dogs a second chance and end animal cruelty. I also hope I get the slot with the dog camp training in the other state so I can fly there at the end of the month. Here is hoping against all hopes everything will go as planned. Aren't dogs part of God's creation? Aren't we suppose to be a good steward of his created thing?

I see you live in the Philippines, because I believe that most if not all the states in America, there is an option for dogs..They do try to find a home for them and there is and where i live there is an ordinance in how many dogs we can have.. I feel for you candy, that has to hard to love dogs so much and have everyone around you be so careless.. Maybe the next time your one neighbor stops to admire your dog, have a list ready of what he can do to have his dog looking as good, maybe he'd get the hint..

Hi carmel, Thanks for dropping by. I hope he gets the hint not take the offense. Like one relative of mine he wants to have a dog for the longest time. He likes Louise and would want to give him a dog. I really was going to get him a dog but what stopped me from giving him was that he wants to be stingy on the dog. He would like to feed the dog table scraps! I feel for the dog and did not go on giving him one. Told him he'd be better off without. He got mad at me and for days did not talk to me! But I'd better he sulks than get one and not care for it properly. I mean if he is stingy with his kids how much more with the dog?

Oh yeah, you made the right decision. A dog is a helpless animal that was put here for us to take care of, not to abuse.

you guys! realise in history dogs helped us, before we hhad microvaves and every thing, WE NEEDED THEM now we need someone else to make our food. but they dont they ar eperfectly fine fending for them selfs. Dogs only have one true masterand its he how they love and are a pet to the rest of the world in his eyes he is a foe. people who treat dogs cruealy either just got mad and have adreniline or arent truly there masters, its phisically imposibale for a true master to be cruel, the dogs show them a true special love other that puppy love, this true love activates chemicals in the brain to make them love them back.

I am too an animal lover especially dogs. They are a wonderful creation of GOD. I agree with you that if anyone adopts a pet, its his responsibility to take care of him. I really feel sorry for those pets adopted by careless stewards. I really feel you are doing a great job. I can understand your feelings because I too have a beautiful doggy at my home. He is taken a great care by parents. He seems to be really blessed & lucky as he was picked up from streets by my sis.

Well even though it doesn't seem that most people's hearts are in the right place. However, it is great that you and your friends are looking for ways that will be able to make the lives of these animals better. We are lucky in the area that we live in that we have a pretty good pound system and even more than that there are a lot of foundations that are geared toward specific breeds of dogs. It is fairly rare that animals are put down because there isn't a home for them.

it is very heart warming to see some one who loves dogs like you. i love dogs too and i think its the only animal who i find loyal, emotional, loving, caring......well you name it.dogs are the only animals that i can bond with also. its amazing how some of them knows exactly what you are going through.so i perfectly understand your state of mind when you see your neighbour treating his dog so badly. may be telling him politely about what injustice he is doing to the poor animal will work. also give him some "how to care for your pets" books and tell him curelty to animals is also a mortal sin .
