Hello everyone! I remember an episode in fear factor where the contestants were challenged to eat exotic food. One of those was balut! I know a lot of people would not eat balut, looks horrible and all that. But honestly balut taste very delicious. It's nothing but duck's egg. The only yucky thing for most people is that when they see the duckling's hair just like the pic below and if there is a beak. My late grandfather being a war veteran has taught me to eat foods otherwise I would never eat as part of survival lesson he taught me. One of them was balut at first I feel like vomiting but when I get to conquer my fear and overcome the challenge I ate balut as if it was nothing. In eating balut what I do is get salt and then I do not pull the shell out but sip the juice inside you will find that it is delicious. Then I pluck the hair and the beak and eat the yolk and the meat so it does not look yucky. Do you think you would give balut a try?

Would I eat something like balut by choice? No, I don't think that I would be able to handle that at all. However, if it was a matter of having to eat it for a matter of survival, then I would do it. I think that if I needed to be able to survive, then I would eat almost anything. I still believe that there would be times that I would have a hard time stomaching things, but you have to do what you've got to do in able to survive.

i had a chinese girlfriend that ate balut but me ill stick to, chocolate covered ants, fried grasshoppers, scorpions, sashimi, rocky mountain oysters, chicken feet, shark tail soup, birds nest soup, and some grubs and bugs crawling around the jungle, your grandfather was a smart man, my dad always said try it if ya dont like it spit it out and now i'll eat just about anything but not fertilized chickens or ducks in an egg.

I think I would try most exotic food. I tend to try any type of food as long as it isn't moving around my plate. I would definitely tried chocolate covered ants, but I think I'd cringe at the site of eating scorpions. Chicken feat I'd be willing to eat as well.

Eating Balut is pretty normal to me. What I am interested to try is eating Cobra Meat Steak, or eating Crocodile Meat Steak. Where can we find such kind of exotic food? Anyone?

Hahaha I do not have that strong stomach to eat what you wanna eat! Lol though I ate dog meat by accident when I was 7 and snake meat when I was 4! Because they say snake meat is so medicinal.

I'm not into eating exotic foods; but yes, I eat not the perfect balut but the pinoy balut. I'm afraid of the hair. I fell like a witch when a balut's chick has grown a bit bigger. I like the juice though, but the beak and the hair is kinda yucky.

Well, I wouldn't eat that because I am a vegetarian! It sounds horrible!! When I ate meat, I did eat frogs' legs when I was in France. That was okay, but quite greasy and just tasted like chicken really. I went vegetarian in 1987, so have been for over 23 years now. I really don't think there are many exotic foods I would try nowadays.

Eating a balut would be a breeze specially if it is very popular in your country. Yes, I ate a balut. I heard that you aren't a true Filipino if you haven't eaten a balut. So I guess, I am a genuine Filipino. I have eaten crocodile meat which tastes like beef and tamilok or mangrove worm which are actually mangrove mollusk. They are a delicacy in Palawan, in the southern part of the Philippines. I also have eaten a couple of street foods like, chicken feet, chicken head and pig's intestine.

balot sa puti - the kind of balot that i like eating
hi candyfairy! well, balut is actually one of my favorites! haha yeah and i can eat it even with lights on! but of course not the one that looks like that in the picture. i love the one which is balot sa puti where the duckling is not showing! haha balot just have this very distinct taste that i really like. i like it with salt or sometimes with vinegar. actually, i think im kinda weird coz i even like the 'sisiw' more than the yellow part! hehe i also have tried eating frogs. hehe and i would love to try other exotic foods as long as it will not poison me. lol!
